Maval firing case: Karnik,others submit affidavits

Sandeep Karnik,present S P Shahaji Solunke and 95 other policemen including State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) personnel on Monday submitted their affidavits in the Maval firing case before the one-member judicial commission of retired Bombay High Court judge M G Gaikwad.

The commission is probing the police firing at Maval and had granted time till Monday to six officials including Karnik to file affidavits detailing their role in the incident.

“A total of 141 affidavits were filed before the commission. These included 97 of various police officers and 44 people…,” said advocate Chinmay Bhosale,who filed the affidavits on their behalf along with advocate Sureshchandra Bhosale. He added that the affidavits of Karnik and Solunke ran into 500 pages each but refused to divulge details until their scrutiny was over.

Gaikwad has been appointed by the government to probe the incident and submit his findings by February end this year. The six officials include district collector Vikas Deshmukh,Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural) Shahaji Solunke,his predecessor Sandeep Karnik,the Inspector of the local police station at Maval when the incident took place,the local sub divisional magistrate and the tehsildar.
