Mixed reactions to online results

Compared to the ‘merit list’ days of the HSC results,Monday was a low-key affair with students crowding cyber cafés and sending messages to check their results. The system, though easy, could not generate the excitement attached to the HSC results day.

“Waiting for a message has never been such a freezing experience. It is very convenient to obtain the results online. However,I preferred to get it by SMS. My friends who went to the cyber café had to spend Rs 10 and between Rs 1 to Rs 5 for the printouts,” said Sukrut Salvekar of Dr Shamrao Kalmadi College.

While the excitement was on the rise since morning, what made the wait longer and tiring were the BSNL servers that were down in some parts of the city. Pointing out the drawback in the system,Gaurav Pol of MMCC said,“While it is a good service, some of the flaws need to be rectified. For instance, when a student fails,his/ her name does not appear on the website. If somebody’s name is missing due to an error, the person might misunderstand that he/ she has failed.”

However, the parents have welcomed the new system. “The seven-day gap between the results and receving the actual marksheets, has given us ample time to decide the career of our children,” said Rujuta Sane,a parent.

Meanwhile, the Maharshtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has appealed to junior colleges to extend their Internet facility to students who want to access their results online.
