With youngsters opting to choose modeling as a profession, and even parents giving them the green signal, model coordination is fast becoming a booming career option
For Preshita Bafna, all her mirror rehearsals of,how she would convey her interest in modeling to her advocate parents went down the drain, when her parents without any hesitation allowed her to pursue a career in modeling. Bafna says,I had worked as a costume designer with reputed photographers in the city, and they had encouraged me to take up modeling as I have a photogenic face, but I was not sure if my parents, both lawyers, would ever allow this, but to my surprise, they were absolutely okay with the idea. There was just one condition that I have to complete my studies and in return I got all the support and encouragement from my parents, she says.
And if recent trends are to be believed then parents are shedding their strict anti-modeling stance and are becoming more liberal as far as career choices for their children are concerned. This in turn has led to the boom in the model-coordination profession wherein model-coordinators are having an abundance of models to work with.
Raadhika Dosa, casting director, says,Parents are definitely becoming more enthusiastic and are allowing their children to enter the profession. The emerging middle-class of parents is showing the right amount of concern towards their childs interest as far as letting them choose modeling as a career option. While they encourage their children, they must take care that the fun element of the profession should be the most important thing. Children should do it for fun and not for the money.
Kalpana Bafna,Preshitas mother, says,We have faith in our daughter. The only condition that we kept was that she would have to complete her studies so that later in life she will have a choice to work in a different career if she ever decides to switch over. Modeling is her hobby and we would be happy if she is doing well, but that should not come at the cost of her compromising her academics.
Speaking about the trend Deepak Bajaj, model coordinator, says,The situation is just opposite of what it was nine year back when I had started. Earlier youngsters were very dedicated and that encouraged them to fight all odds and convince their parents to let them take up a unconventional career like modeling, while their parents just could not accept the whole thing. Now-a-days parents are more liberal and do not mind their children choosing a career in modeling, while as youngsters are more focused towards making a quick buck. The youth is not looking at modeling as a career any more; it is more of a part-time job. Either way it is becoming a lucrative profession for model coordinators as their demands are increasing.
Fashion choreographer,Sandeep Dharma, confirms the change,as he points out,In the past two decades, lots of beauty pageants have come up opening newer avenues for people who wish to take up modeling as a profession. And that trend in the industry has lead to an increase in the number of model coordinators too. I have parents coming to us with their children and getting them registered, which is a good sign.
