Alleging EVM tampering during the Maharashtra Assembly polls, Nationalist Congress Party (SP) leader Prashant Jagtap Sunday said that the party will travel across all the 288 seats to show how the poll results were “fake”.
Jagtap along with NCP(SP) leaders Ashwini Kadam and Sachin Dodke attended a demonstration in Pune by ‘EVM Hatao Sena’, which claimed that the EVMs can be tampered.
At the start of the event, Jagtap said, “The demo will show what the VVPAT displays when you vote for someone, but how the real VVPAT slip is of the candidate that they (BJP) want to win. We will go to all 288 seats in Maharashtra and show the people how the results (of the Assembly polls) were fake. IT engineers and even kids who have a good understanding of technology should know how the government has cheated, and how the election commission is doing shady work in their support.”
EVM Hatao Sena’s state incharge Amit Upadhyay conducted the demo on a dummy EVM machine to show the organisation’s view on how the programming on an EVM can be set to “steal votes”.
“This is not the EVM used by the Election Commission of India. This is a machine made by us,” he clarified during the demo.
Recently the Markadwadi village in Maharashtra made headlines after attempting to hold a mock poll using ballot paper. However, local police and authorities did not allow this repoll to take place.
