The PMC is gearing up to provide civic facilities to lakhs of devotees who are set to pass through the city from Saturday. The civic body has undertaken cleanliness drive on the route of palkhi and at the places where residents might stay for two days. The civic staff have taken up cleanliness work on war-footing. The civic administration has also made additional arrangements to clean the solid waste that will be collected in these two days, said Deputy Municipal Commissioner Subhash Jagtap.
Civic staff will follow the palkhi from its entry into the city from Wakdewadi and carry out cleanliness work as the procession moves forward,he said,adding it will be done till the palkhi procession leaves the PMC jurisdiction on June 27.
To meet the needs of the devotees,the PMC has also made changes in its timetable for water supply to the city. It carried out urgent repair work on the supply network in a bid to ensure sufficient water supply to the lakhs of devotees in two days. The civic body carried out water cut on Monday in several areas in the city to carry out maintainance work at Parvati,Wadgaon and Cantonment pumping stations.
The timetable for water supply has been changed to ensure that there is ample supply on the route of the palkhi, said PMC executive engineer Pramod Nirbhavane. He said the PMC would also install water tankers at various places during the procession.
The fire department has been on alert to tackle any untoward incicidents during the procession. All the staff will work for three days continuosly, said a civic official.
The health department too has made arrangements to provide medical services to the warkaris. The warkaris will get medical service free of cost at the dispensary and hospitals of the PMC, said PMC health chief R R Pardeshi.
The civic body will also make ambulance service available for the devotees.
