The Shiv Sena has decided to approach Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and seek his intervention in the Mundhwa land conversion proposal that was passed in the Pune Municipal Corporation with its ally BJP supporting the Congress-NCP ruling alliance. The Shiv Sena was the only party that opposed the proposal even though BJP voted in favour reportedly due to orders from above.
We will meet the chief minister and ask him to intervene in the matter,as it is an injustice to the farmers of Mundhwa and shows the high-handedness of the government. The decision has been taken to favour builders, alleged Shiv Sena leader Neelam Gorhe.
The civic proposal to convert the 938 agricultural land into residential zone had been pending in the PMC for long and was passed at the general body meeting on Thursday with a majority of 76 against 16.
Shiv Sena leader in the PMC Shyam Deshpande also stressed that his party was not against the city development and is aware of the need of land conversion.
But it shouldnt come at the cost of farmers. Though Mundhwa was included in the old development plan,it has not been implemented till date. There have been irregular land conversions in Mundhwa. In the new proposal, they have changed the reservation patterns to suit builders. Without any elaborate study, zoning has been changed and a free hand has been given to builders, alleged Deshpande.
