PMC springs into action to streamline nullahs

The poor state of nullahs that had led to heavy flooding in monsoon last year in Pashan. Last week,action of civic administration in plugging the loopholes was highlighted in Actionline. The PMC has now woken up and started the work to avoid a repeat.

“The work to ensure that there is no flooding in monsoon has been started at various levels. The ward office has issued tenders for cleaning up the nullahs in the area,” said Jayant Bhosekar,ward officer.

He said the ward office conducted a survey of nullahs and recommended a few spots where pipes should be replaced with box culvert. “The nullah channelisation work will be undertaken by a separate department for the purpose,” Bhosekar said. The administration has started removing bottlenecks for smooth flow of water in nullahs and has urged housing societies to make changes in compound walls that obstruct flow of water.

Responding to the Pashan lake report,PMC Garden department official Bhanudas Mane said that a tender would soon be floated for the removal of weeds on the lake.
