Following repeated complaints from citizen forums and public representatives, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has announced strict measures against bus drivers and conductors who violate traffic rules. The public transport corporation warned that violations, including usage of mobile phones while driving, stopping at zebra crossings, and ignoring traffic signals, could result in suspension of the concerned employees. The PMPML provides bus services to rural areas near Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and the areas falling under the jurisdiction of the Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority. The complaints that the PMPML received primarily include using mobile phones while driving, stopping buses at zebra crossings, smoking, failing to change route boards, not adhering to lane discipline, and running traffic signals among other issues. In accordance with the directions issued by the Chairperson and Managing Director of PMPML, "Drivers and conductors are instructed to adhere to the aforementioned rules and regulations, which include respecting speed limits, maintaining lane discipline, refraining from using mobile phones, and parking the buses close to the bus stop, among others." However, if the above rules are not followed, the authority has instructed employees that the complaint will be investigated, and strict action will be taken against the drivers and conductors involved, which may include suspension.
