Pranab to attend BVU convocation ceremony

Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will be in the city on Wednesday to attend the convocation ceremony of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University.

Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will be in the city on Wednesday to attend the convocation ceremony of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University. “The university will be conferring D.Litt on Mukherjee during this convocation and Mukherjee will deliver the convocation address,” said Shivaji Kadam,vice-chancellor of BVU.

While 34 students will be given gold medals and 54 will be awarded PhD degrees,a total of 6,350 students have applied for their degree certificates.

The new academic year will see the induction of more courses and setting up of new facilities at the university. “The varsity will soon launch MBA in Agro Management,which will help students from a farming background to go back to their villages and improvise in their profession,” said Nitin Nayak,dean,management faculty,BVU.

Also,a lubricant maintenance laboratory,claimed to be the second in India after IIT Chennai,is being set up in the BVU.

“The lab will help in testing samples of bearing oil that will help in removing the impurities and reuse of the oil,” said Anand Bhalerao,dean,faculty of engineering and technology.

In the absence of a testing facility,the impure oil is discarded,he added.

The BUV runs 214 courses — 107 postgraduate,50 undergraduate and 57 diploma courses — from 11 different faculties.

The university also runs 21 courses through its distance education programme.
