Wearing helmet made mandatory for govt employees in Pune division

The Road Safety Committee set up by the Supreme Court under Justice Abhay Sapre recently concluded a meeting at Vidhan Bhavan regarding the measures to be taken to reduce road accidents in Pune

It has been made mandatory for employees of government and semi-government agencies, municipal corporations and councils, and government colleges in Pune division to wear helmet while riding two-wheelers. The order was issued by Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar. He warned that punitive action will be taken against those violating the rule and it will be recorded in their service book.

The press release by Pulkundwar states that according to Section 129 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 and as per various directions issued by High Courts and the Supreme Court from time to time, it is mandatory for the rider of a two-wheeler as well as the pillion rider to wear a helmet.
