Whether it is the setting up of Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA),getting the green Development Plan (DP) cleared,or preventing blasts,Puneites are clearly not happy with the performance of the Democractic Front government which recently completed 100 days in office.

Reactions of citizens, politicians and activists range from disappointment to anger at what many call “poor” performance of the government. BJP corporator Vikas Matkari says that the first 100 days did not see a single project move for Pune.

“All issues are pending. The proposals of PMRDA and ring road are all pending. Even the civic body work has not progressed. Now,the blast has only highlighted the lapses in security. The money meant for the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is still pending with the government and this is delaying any development work,” he says.

Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe said that in the present situation, the police chowkies are operating as post offices.

“How secure are citizens?” she asks. Law and order is not in place. Not a single project has gained the required momentum.

She also points out the lapses in the education system. “The government has completely lost its focus,” Gorhe says.

Activist Vijay Kumbhare too is of the same opinion. From failure to give securtity to whistleblowers, rising prices and low salaries, the common man is the most-affected. “The blast only shows the security lapses and the common man feels more threatened,” he points out.

Even as the government is deliberating on rolling out the PMRDA,a senior government officer said that the government is still deliberating on the source of the seed capital and the area for the project.
