The State Election Commission is considering accepting online nomination forms of candidates contesting the upcoming elections in the state. With municipal council elections in December 2017 and corporation and Zilla Parishad elections in 2017, candidates can fill up the form put up on the website and attach relevant documents rather than lining up before the electoral officer.

A video conference on the matter was conducted by state election commissioner JS Saharia with all election officials on implementing the system. Officials said that training would be provided to council and corporation members and the latest technology would be used in the process.

“This was done for the gram panchayat polls and now we would see the same for council and corporation polls,” said a senior official from the election branch. Lonavala, Junnar and Talegaon Dabhade will go for polls in December 2016 while Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti polls are slated for September 2017. PMC and PCMC elections are also scheduled for 2017.

The software used will also display the ward map according to their population as per 2011 census. The state election commissioner said nodal officers should be appointed to carry out the procedure ahead of the polls.
