St Vincent’s,Fergusson score wins at ZP football tournament

The St Vincent’s High School and Fergusson College opened their campaigns with contrasting victories over their respective opponents at the Zilla Parishad Under-19 Football Tournament which kicked off at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex at Balewadi on Wednesday.

St Vincent’s began exerting pressure on their opponents,the Vasantrao Mohite College,right from the outset and this attacking mentality soon paid off as Russel Pillai’s scored to catapult them into the lead just ten minutes after kickoff.

Akshay Hivale made it 2-0 six minutes later,giving the Vincentians some breathing room.

Refusing to admit defeat,Mohite College went on the offensive and pulled one back in the 18 th minute through striker Hrushikesh Dorge.

However,Vincents’ two-goal cushion was soon restored through Shaun Bob,who found the back of the net in the 21 st minute.Dorge netted yet again in the 27 th to make it 3-2 and provide the spectators with some tense final moments,but St Vincent’s managed to hold on for an opening-day victory.

Fergusson College,on the other hand,had a relatively easy outing against the RR Shinde Junior College,securing a comfortable 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Aditya Debnath and Abhishek Gosavi.

Debnath opened the scoring in the the 7th minute,and Gosavi added another in the 24 th minute to ensure an easy win for Fergusson.

The Vidya Bhavan High School had to go through a penalty shootout to defeat St Patricks High School after regulation time ended in a goalless draw.

In the tiebreaker,Jobin Anthony,Abhishek James and Kevin John converted their spot kicks for Vidya Bhavan,while Wilfred D’ Souza and Gautam Swami found the net for St. Patricks. However,Mario Dnyanprakash,Nathan Ashley and Ved Durgesh of St Patrick’s missed their penalties to give Vidya Bhavan a 3-2 victory.
