The Bombay High Court has asked the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to submit details regarding the demolition of 66,000 illegal structures in its jurisdiction in three weeks.

The high court directive  comes in the wake of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Jayshree Dange, a resident of Pimpri-Chinchwad, in connection with a school in Sangvi area on Monday. Dange had filed the PIL through advocate Uday Varunjikar. During the hearing, the PCMC said the demolition drive, as per the high court directives, is underway in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

“But in view of the huge number of the illegal structures, civic body is facing a number of hurdles in carrying out the drive. Police protection, which is mandatory, is not available readily. The officers are facing the anger of the people,” the PCMC argued.
However, the high court, referring to its earlier order last year, told PCMC to submit the timetable regarding its drive. The court also asked the civic body to provide protection to officers while carrying out the drive.
