Nishaad Shah and Devdatta Phadanvis reached the finals of the Junior Boys singles category after beating their respective opponents in the State Ranking Table Tennis tournament organised by the Maharashtra State Table Tennis Association and held at the Symbiosis Spa.
Fourth-seeded Shah caused the major upset of the day by defeating top-seeded Shubankar Renavikar of Pune in a marathon seven-setter. After going down 4/11 in the first game Shah was up against it. He fought back strongly,however,and came back to narrowly win the second game 13/11. he took the same confidence into the third game and won it 11/9. Not being one to back down,Renavikar showed great courage and won the next two games with the same 11/9 margin. Shah,however,did not let this bog him down.
He raised the level of his game and won the next two games 11/8 and 11/7 and reached the final.
In the second semifinal,second seeded Devdatta Phadanvis got the better of third seeded Chandrashekhar Ghole in six sets.
After losing the first set 11/7 Phadanvis came back in the second and won it 11/7. he was on a good run as he won the next two games 11/5 and 11/9. he lost the fifth game 8/11 but came back strongly in the 6th game and won it 12/10.
