Raising civic issues with the administration, NCP(SP) working president Supriya Sule on Wednesday said that a lack of proper planning had deteriorated the traffic situation in the city, which was declared as having the fourth most congested roads in the world.

“It is obvious for the city to be among the top cities of the world that have highly congested roads. There is no planning. Multiple works are going at a time in the city and there are no proper service roads to tackle traffic chaos due to ongoing work,” said Sule after a review of civic facilities with the civic administration.

“There are high rise buildings coming up in the city but there is no support system of civic facilities to handle the development of such infrastructure. The existing system is collapsing,” she said.
Sule is the MP of Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, which partly falls under the jurisdiction of Pune Municipal Corporation.

Sule said there was an increase in air and water pollution in the city. She added that a lot was needed to resolve the city’s civic issues as well as those of the 34 villages merged under the civic limits in last few years.

She said that assurances were given ahead of the assembly election that there would be relief in the property tax of buildings among the newly merged villages. She said this should be implemented and shouldn’t just stay as an election gimmick.
