Two held for murder of IBM techie

Police said that Gadhave and Kame then hacked Shenoy’s face with stone, stole his ATM card and went on a shopping spree.

Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of an IBM techie whose body was found on August 3.

Police said the victim, Mohan Gopinath Shenoy (40), was a resident of Shanti Rakshan society in Yerwada. The suspects, identified as Prakash Gadhve (22) and his accomplice Vishal Vishwas Kame (18), both residents of Manik Nagar in Yerwada, had allegedly hacked Shenoy to death with a stone. The two also had previous criminal history as per police records.

On August 2, Shenoy’s father had filed a missing complaint at the Yerwada police station. The next day, his body was found near Mhasoba temple in Paud ghat. The case was cracked after Gadhve was picked up by the Yerwada police two days ago for suspected involvement in a break-in. During investigation, the police allegedly recovered Shenoy’s ATM card from him. Interrogation revealed that Gadhve and his aide Vishal Kame had killed Shenoy and later did shopping worth Rs 2.5 lakh using the victim’s ATM card.

According to senior police inspector Satish Patil of Yerwada police station, Shenoy, a native of Mumbai, was a bachelor living alone in Pune. He used to travel from his home to his workplace in Gadhve’s autorickshaw. Both developed friendly relations and started going together for drinking liquor. Police said Gadhve knew that Shenoy was having a good bank balance. He took Gadhve in Paud area for a drinking session on August 2 and managed to get his ATM card pin number after gaining his confidence.

Probe has revealed that using Shenoy’s ATM card, the duo also withdrew money from ATM machines in Shirdi and Solapur.
