Two kids drowned in Pavana river at Dhobhi ghat near their residence in Subhash Nagar,Pimpri camp,on Friday afternoon.
Police said neighbours Gaurav Rajesh Chavan (4) and Mayur Pravin Dipal (3) went to Dhobhi ghat to play around 12.30 pm when Gauravs mother had gone to drop his elder brother to school. When she returned,she did not find Gaurav at home. While looking for Gaurav,she realised that even Mayur was not around. As the news of the two boys missing spread,residents of Subhash Nagar launched an extensive search.
Gauravs father Rajesh,an employee of health department in Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC),rushed home on being informed about his son gone missing. During his search,he found Mayurs body on the river banks of Dhobhi ghat. Later,Gauravs body was also fished out of the river. The duo were taken to the YCM Hospital but both were declared dead on arrival,police said.
A family member of Gaurav said he was admitted to Class I at Indira Gandhi English Medium School in Pimpri on Thursday and was all set to join school.
Police said Gaurav is survived by parents,elder brother and two sisters. Mayur is survived by his parents and elder sister. Mayurs father Pravin is also a PCMC employee.
