Workshop on ‘sustainable sanitation’

Ecosan Services foundation,a Pune-based NGO,together with the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) European Secretariat and the regional secretariats of ICLEI (for Africa,South Asia and South-East Asia) will organise a workshop on Wednesday in the city to launch “Accessanitation- Accelerating City to City Exchange for Sustainable Sanitation”,a project funded by the European Union.

The workshop will be inaugurated by A K Mehta,joint secretary (Urban development &Adminstration),ministry of Urban Development. The keynote speakers for the program will be Dr Dahasahasra,Member Secretary,Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran State Water Utility,Water and Sanitation,Government of Maharashtra.

The project aims to initiate and promote city-specific sustainable sanitation solutions in a total of ten cities – five in the Philippines and five in India – thus targeting to improve health conditions,foster the local economy and increase food security.

The cities selected in India are Vasai-Virar,Maharashtra; Vikarabad,Andhra Pradesh; Rajmundhary,Andhra Pradesh; Hoskote,Karnataka and Tirupur,Tamilnadu.

The project is supported by the Union Ministry of Urban Development,government of India.
