A 23-year-old youth has been convicted for raping a minor girl on several occasions between November 2010 and December 2011 and sentenced to five-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) for rape and three-year RI for abduction. The sentences would run concurrently.
Additional Sessions Judge A P Kurhekar recently convicted the youth from Hadapsar,Jayant Shivaji Ankush.
According to the prosecution,Ankush and the 15-year-old girl were neighbours and friends. He used to take her for sightseeing on his motorcycle after her school hours or during weekends. Between November 21,2010 and December 6,2010,they stayed at lodges in Hadapsar and adjoining areas where the accused repeatedly raped her after promising to marry her, said additional public prosecutor Vikas Shah.
The prosecution said that the incident came to light after the girls uncle saw her with the accused at a lodge on December 6.
The girl later registered a complaint of abduction and rape against the youth. Shah examined six witnesses and relied on the victims evidence for proving the guilt of the accused.
The prosecution produced her birth certificate to prove the girl was a minor and argued for maximum punishment for Jayant as the consent given by her for physical relationship was not valid as she was a minor.
