A labourer sustained injuries on Thursday after his co-worker accidentally fired a revolver found in a bale of used garments imported from Canada, at a garments’ processing unit in Kandla Special Economic Zone (KASEZ) near Gandhidham in Kutch.
The police identified the accused as Shivji Maheshwari (38), a worker at Maruti Exports. “The workers found a revolver in the bale of used garments and were checking the same when one of the workers pulled its trigger accidentally. The bullet hit one of the workers in the abdomen. The worker was rushed to a hospital where he underwent a surgery. He is reported to be out of danger,” Inspector M D Chaudhary, in charge of B Division police station in Gandhidham, said.
“Maruti Exports had imported a container-load of used garments from Canada. The container was packed with 43 bales of used garments… The workers had unpacked 26 bales when they discovered the revolver,” Chaudhary said. “We are in the process of registering an FIR in this connection,” he added.
