Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas The Muslim community being a key support base for the party in Kerala, the CPI(M), in an effort to address concerns of the community, sent Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas and Politburo member Subhashini Ali to Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, where a seven-year-old boy was beaten by fellow classmates on their teacher’s instructions. Carrying a message from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Brittas met the child and his family. He assured the parents of all help in securing the future of their children.
Vijayan had issued a statement pledging the state government’s support, and Brittas told the family that the party will sponsor education of both the victim and his 16-year-old brother, who had to quit school due to the family’s financial constraints. The family has accepted the offer.
While its beautification drive for the G20 Summit is in its home stretch, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) is also using foliage to cover up some unwanted views. The CPWD is busy placing seasonal and ornamental plants along Rafi Marg, Man Singh Road, C-Hexagon and other gardens of Kartavya Path, as well as the Air Force Station in Palam and the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Along with the colourful displays of flowers, ‘green’ walls have been put up to block the view of an unfinished project, where contractors are yet to hand over the site.
With the Miss World 2023 event slated to be held in Kashmir later this year, the authorities are giving credit to the G20 tourism track meeting held in Srinagar in May for opening up the world to the beauty and stability of the Union Territory. Contestants from 140 countries will participate in the contest, which was earlier scheduled to be held in the UAE.
