Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday revealed the sports enthusiast side of him at an event held to announce the University of Liverpool’s upcoming campus in India. Speaking at the event, Pradhan pointed out that he is a “soccer lover” and congratulated the Liverpool Football Club on its victory in the English Premier League. Between the two popular games — cricket and football — he said he liked football more. At the event, representatives from the University of Liverpool presented Pradhan and other officials with red scarves emblazoned with the Liverpool Football Club crest.

Government officials and BJP leaders engaged in arrangements for two significant events — NITI Aayog and NDA CMs’ Conclave — had to work overtime to tide over operational issues that cropped up due to extreme weather events in the Capital this weekend. From uprooted installations and banners welcoming CMs and Deputy CMs to leaking roofs and waterlogging, several eventualities had to be confronted with and worked out “within minutes” as strong winds and rain continued to throw new challenges at both the venues — Bharat Mandapam and a prominent hotel — in the city.

Union Jal Shakti Minister C R Patil has found a unique model to promote the ‘Catch the Rain’ campaign launched by his ministry to raise awareness about water conservation. At his official residence — 2, Safdarjung Lane in New Delhi — he has installed a lotus-shaped fountain on the front lawn. The design mirrors the BJP’s party symbol and is adorned on top with four round frames, all displaying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photos. It is learnt that the fountain was brought from Surat. Many visitors are drawn to this unique installation, with some not missing a chance to take a selfie with it.
