Amid concerns over deepfake videos, statements from the IT minister and the MoS suggesting different approaches to tackle the menace have triggered whispers in the power corridors. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stressed on the need to develop new regulations to control deepfakes, while MoS Rajeev Chandrasekhar said existing regulations were adequate if enforced strictly. The amused officials and party leaders are wondering what should be the official line.

Sharing Stage

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will be the chief guest at Monday’s Regional Conference on Legal Aid being organised by the National Legal Services Authority. Dhankhar will share the stage with Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, among other dignitaries. Dhankhar’s sharp remarks in January on the judiciary citing the basic structure doctrine had invited a response from the CJI, who compared the doctrine to the “North Star” that guides the Constitution.
