In the Bihar Board, the past trends have shown that girls have usually scored better than boys, even if the topper is a male candidate, the ratio of toppers of girls has been higher than boys. Last year, girls scored better than boys. Commerce topper Somya Sharma and Rajneesh Kumar Pathak secured 95 per cent, Science topper Ayushi Nandan, earned 94.8 per cent, and Arts/ Humanities topper Mohaddesa scored 95 per cent.

As per the marking scheme, the minimum mark that must be obtained to pass the intermediate board exams is 30 in every subject. The total marks for every subject is 100 (theory and practicals combined) except for optional subjects which carry 50 marks.

The BSEB inter Class 12 toppers received laptops and cash prizes. Each girl topper was awarded Rs 1 lakh, 1 kindle and one laptop, while second and third rank holders got Rs 75,000, 1 kindle, 1 laptop and Rs 50,000, a laptop and a kindle. The fourth and fifth toppers were given Rs 15,000 and a laptop.

Students who secured second spot in all streams were rewarded Rs 75000, a kindle and a laptop. Third toppers were rewarded Rs 50,000, a kindle and a laptop. The 4th, 5th and 6th toppers of all streams were given Rs 15000 and a laptop.

Post 2016 topper controversy that tainted the Bihar Board image, the board summons toppers to their Patna office for verification to ensure that no malpractice was done during the exams.

In 2023, Class 12 results were declared on March 21 and a total of 10,51,948 students cleared the exams. The overall percentage stood at 83.70 per cent, an increase of 3.70 per cent from last year’s 80 per cent.

Ministry of Education in an assessment of classes 10 and 12 exam results found out that 11 states contribute to 85 per cent of school dropouts. These states are:-

Last year, an assessment by the Ministry of Education highlighted that top five boards (Uttar Pradesh, CBSE, Maharashtra, Bihar and West Bengal) cover about 50 per cent of students and the rest 50 per cent students are enrolled in 55 boards across the country.

Last year, in the Arts stream,  26,173  students appeared for the compartment exam out of which 16,624. The pass percentage stood at 63.51 per cent. A total of 822 students appeared for the Commerce compartment exam out of which 589 students cleared the exam. The pass percentage stood at 71.65 per cent. Also, a total of 29,048 students appeared for the Science compartment exam, out of which 17,564 students cleared the exam. The pass percentage was recorded at 60.46 per cent.

This time, installation of CCTV cameras and arrangements for videography were made at all the examination centers, the BSEB said. It was reitetrated that students were not allowed to carry any electronic devices or paper in the exam hall.

The board also said that the invigilators and other personnel in the BSEB exam hall were not allowed to take any other documents and mobile phones to the centre except those related to the examination work. Also, electronic devices including bluetooth devices, pagers, smart watches, magnetic watches and electronic watches were not allowed for any invigilator or other personnel including the candidates.

This time, BSEB also apprehended 33 persons impersonating students in the Bihar board Class 10 exams. While as many as seven impersonators were caught in the Nalanda district, six were caught in Gopalganj, and five in Jahanabad. Four each were caught impersonating in Bhojpur and Navada. While two each were found in Saran and Saharsa, one each was caught in Jamui, Arwal and Buxar districts.

this time, a total of 16,94,781 students registered for Matric (class 10) exams, of which 8,50,571 candidates (4,38,967 girls and 4,11,604 boys) were registered for Math exam in the first shift which was held from 9:30 am to 12:45 pm, and a total of 8,44,210 candidates (4,33,227 girls and 410,983 boys) were registered for the evening shift which was held from 2 pm till 5:15 pm.

The Bihar government announced it was going to discontinue plus two (intermediate) classes being held in colleges affiliated to various universities in the state. In a notification issued late on Wednesday evening, the Education department said that while such classes had been discontinued in Patna University about a decade ago, the same will cease to be held at colleges falling under other varsities from the academic session beginning in April this year.

According to the notification, intermediate education (in all three streams — arts, science and commerce) will now be imparted only in higher secondary schools from the new session.

The Class 12 or intermediate exams of Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) started on February 1. The Bihar Board Class 12 exams were held in two shifts for two subjects on the same day. The first shift was held between 9:30 am and 12:45 pm and the second from 2 pm to 5:15 pm. BSEB Class 12 inter 2024 exams for science, arts, commerce and vocational courses continued till February 12.

The Bihar board inter result date and time are not announced yet. It is expected to be released soon. Last year, the BSEB Class 12 exams were conducted from February 1 to 11, 2023 and the results were then declared on March 21.

This year, a total of 13,04,352 students appeared for the intermediate Class 12 BSEB exam, of them, 6,26,431 were girls and 6,77,921 boys. The exams were held in 1,523 exam centres across the state.

The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) earlier released the Class 12 intermediate official answer keys for the multiple choice questions, and students were given time to check and raise objections against the given answer key. The BSEB Class 12 result will be declared after the board has considered the objections and feedback on the provisional answer key, if any.

This time, BSEB announced in advanced that the students who reach the examination centre later than the scheduled time for admission, by jumping over the boundary wall or attempting to forcefully enter the examination centre will be considered illegal,” BSEB warned in an official post on X.

Additionally, in class 10 exams, BSEB also apprehended 33 persons impersonating students in the Math exam.

Before the scorecard release dates are announced by the Bihar Board, let’s take a look at the trend of the board releasing Inter result in the past six years:

As per the data made available by Bihar Board last year, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), a national education board, is the board from where majority of the students are shifting to BSEB. The data reveals that the board has been attracting students from CBSE since 2018.

The number of students shifting from CBSE to BSEB has been continuously increasing by nearly 20,000 since 2018.

The number increased from 47421 in 2018 to 69460 in 2019 and then jumped to 87086 in 2020. During the pandemic, the number increased drastically to 100438 in 2021. This, the board claims is because of the changes brought in by the board in the past few years, which is more similar to the pattern of competitive exams.

No, like other boards, Bihar Board observes more participation from male students rather than female students. 

In 2023, over 13 lakh students had appeared in BSEB Class 12, out of which 6,36,432 were girls and 6,81,795 were boys appeared in the exam. In the class 12 exams of 2021, a total of 13,50,233 students had registered, of which 6,46,540 were females and the rest 7,03,693 were male candidates.
