‘Created a planner to streamline my preparation,’ says CA Inter topper Tanya Gupta

19-year-old Tanya after scoring 93 per cent in Class 12 considered her cousin CA Manshi Poddar as her role model and followed her footsteps.

'Created a planner for study,' says ICAI CA Inter second topper Tanya Gupta over her success

Chennai-based Tanya Gupta secured second position in the ICAI CA Inter results 2024 released on October 30. Nineteen-year-old Tanya considered her CA cousin as her role model and followed in her footsteps. She completed her preparation for the ICAI CA Inter within 9 months and found theory subjects to be a bit harder than the practical subjects.

Sharing her preparation strategies, she said she created a planner which helped her sorting the vast syllabus. A timeline for classes, revision and attempting mock papers helped her preparation.

“I find theory difficult as they were harder to retain and required constant revision which is not in the case of practical subjects. Practical questions and subjects require understanding of the concepts and then practise,” said Gupta.

To her, notes and regular revision are her ‘success mantra’ which she also considers should not be avoided by any student appearing for the CA Inter exam.

“I used to study for 6-7 hours every day on an average, but I strongly believe that the number of hours you study doesn’t matter, rather it’s the way you study that matters, and taking breaks in between is necessary too. I used to take half a day off every Sunday to focus on myself,” said Tanya who scored 92 per cent in class 10.

While attempting the examination, Tanya devoted first 15 minutes to read and examine the paper properly. “It is important that we don’t panic during those 15 minutes, and also decide the order and manner in which we have to approach the paper,” said the girl who completed her schooling from Kola Saraswathi Vaishnav Sr Secondary School.

Social media is considered to be a major distraction for the students, however, Gupta minimised its usage. “For me, social media played the role of a stress buster, however it is necessary to strike a balance. I used to keep my phone locked in a cupboard when I studied, and used it only when I took breaks,” said the girl who has a strong command on accountancy since her school days.

For revision, she kept a balance between the theory and practical subjects and analysed her strengths and weaknesses. She also marked important questions for her revision strategy and called consistency and focus as the main pillars of her preparation journey.

Recommending aspirants, she said being calm and not panicking at the sight of tough questions is important. “As we tend to make more mistakes when we are stressed. Its necessary to read the question and start step by step. Focus on knowing your strengths and weaknesses and plan accordingly. Don’t get influenced by the preparation of your peers,” she said.
