GATE 2025 Result Updates: Results declared, all India ranks out; scorecards awaited

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Roorkee) on March 19 declared the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025 result. The candidates who appeared for the test between February 1 and February 16 will be able to check the GATE 2025 results at gate2025.iitr.ac.in and goaps.iitr.ac.in by logging in at the portal.

GATE 2025 exam was held for 30 papers in total. The GATE 2025 response sheets were released on February 27. Candidates were allowed to raise objections regarding the answer keys from February 27 to March 1. The GATE 2025 scorecards will be available for free download from March 28 to May 31. From June 1 to December 31, candidates can avail the GATE 2025 score cards by paying a fee of Rs 500 per test paper.

— The Biological Sciences and Bioengineering Department at IIT Kanpur will admit MTech students through the GATE 2025 examination.

–NPCIL will be using GATE 2025 results of CE, CH, EC, EE, IN, and ME test papers for recruitment, as mentioned on the official website.

–GRID-India will be using GATE 2025 scores of EE test papers for recruitment, while GAIL Limited will use them for CH, CS, EE, IN, and ME papers.

Apart from the above, there are various other PSUs which take GATE scores for recruitment purposes like the Airports Authority of India, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Coal India Limited, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), National Thermal Power Corporation among others.

Not only admission to top Indian institutes but a GATE score can also be used to get financial assistance for:

–If a candidate wants to pursue a master’s programme or wants to take admission through a direct process in the doctoral programmes in engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts, and humanities.

–For doctoral programmes, only selected subjects are available as mentioned above, however, the institution a candidate will choose for the programme must be supported by the Ministry of Education or any other government agencies.

Additionally, for master courses, MTech students will get financial assistance of Rs 12,400 per month which is generally paid up for 22 months. In the case of doctoral programmes, the assistance of Rs 37,000 will be given for two years and Rs 42,000 per month from the third to the fifth year.

The computer science and information technology (CS) paper has remained one of the most-registered subjects in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) in the last five years. Mechanical engineering and civil engineering are also on the list of the most-opted subjects.

In 2024, as many as 1,52,652 students applied to appear for the Computer Science and Information Technology (CS) paper — the highest in all subjects. The maximum mark obtained in CS was 90 last year and the lowest was -13.33. The maximum score obtained was 1000 and the lowest was -96. Of the 1,52,652 students registering in CS, as many as 1,23,967 appeared and only 21,949 could qualify.

The scorecards for GATE 2025 will be made available on March 28.

The first GATE was held on February 26, 1983 to select candidates for all post graduate engineering courses at five IITs (Delhi, Bombay, Kharagpur, Kanpur and Madras) and Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. These courses which led to Master’s degree in Engineering and Technology, were of three semesters duration (18 months).

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, 21-year-old Piyush Kumar improved his Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) rank from 530 in 2023 to AIR 1 this year. His potion to success, he claims, was ensuring that all his concepts are clear.

Kumar is a final year student of BTech CSE from Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar, Uttarakhand. He had been preparing for GATE for the past 15-16 months. When he appeared for GATE 2023, he hadn’t put in as much effort in preparation, so he decided to change his approach towards the exam this year.

“I sat and looked back at what were the mistakes that I was making last year. I identified my weaknesses and worked harder in those areas. When I practised mock tests, I ensured that I did not miss out on those chapters which seemed difficult to me last year,” he told indianexpress.com.

–In MS Packaging Technology at IP University, earlier, only CET and CUET were considered. This year, GATE, UGC-NET, and CSIR-NET have also been included, While in the case of BS Packaging Technology, CET and CUET JEE Advanced, JEE Mains, and NEET scores will be considered.

The scorecards for GATE 2025 will be made available on March 28.

Qualifying in GATE does not guarantee admission, scholarship, or a job. Admission to any institute is fully dependent on the admitting institute’s criteria for educational qualification. GATE qualification does not assure a public sector undertaking (PSU) job.

GATE 2024 was conducted on February 3, 4, 10, and 11, 2024. The response sheets were released on February 15, and answer keys, question papers were released on February 19. Candidates were allowed to raise objections regarding the answer keys from February 22 to 25.

If the candidates forget the login credentials to download GATE 2025 result, the official website -- gate2025.iitr.ac.in has a tab to retrieve the forgotten credentials. Candidates will have to login with their email IDs and retrieve the registration ID.

All participating institutes will seek a COAP registration number on their MTech applications portal for admissions. Candidates who have applied for admission into an MTech. Programme in any of the participating academic institutes, will receive admission offers only via COAP.

To access and take a decision on the most preferred choice out of the offers (if any) made by participating Institute(s), each candidate should register and visit COAP. Without registering at COAP, the candidate cannot access the offers on COAP.

No separate scores and ranks will be provided for candidates attempting either Part B (Section I – Surveying and Mapping) or Part B (Section II – Image Processing and Analysis).

Yes, there will be separate ranks and scores for sectional papers -- XE, XH and XL.

The GATE 2025 scorecards will be released only for those who will clear the cut-off score.
