IIM CAT 2024 : The Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C) conducted the Common Admission Test (CAT) Sunday in three slots. The first shift of CAT 2024 began at 8:30 am and continued until 10:30 am. The second shift was held in the afternoon session between 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm, while the last and third sessions of CAT 2024 ended at 6:30 pm
Experts analysed that the examination was easier as compared to the last two years’ examination. Further, they expect that the exam can have a higher cut-off. There were 2 sets of 5 questions each and 3 sets of 4 questions each in the data interpretation and logical reasoning. One of the sets was reported to be fairly doable, claimed Ramnath Kanakadandi, Senior Course Director, T.I.M.E..

The second session maintained a moderate overall difficult, with unique section-wise challenges that tested aspirants’ adaptability and precision. ” Three of the RCs were deemed manageable, while the Odd-One-Out (OOC) set proved time-consuming. The section demanded strategic time allocation but rewarded clarity in comprehension and reasoning,” said Gandhi.
The first session was also rated as ‘tricky’ by some experts and test takers. The verbal ability and reading comprehension were rated easy to difficult; data interpretation and logical reasoning were rated easy to moderate and quantitative ability was rated moderate to difficult level by a few experts. “There were a total of 68 questions, which were to be attempted in 120 minutes. Collecting the responses from multiple test takers, Career Launcher claimed that the CAT 2024 slot 2 paper can be considered moderately difficult. The slot 2 CAT 2024 paper was almost similar to the difficulty level of the first slot of the day. Overall, Slot 2 of CAT 24 was easier than Slot 1 and 2 of CAT 23.
Exam Pattern & Difficulty Level
The test takers from the CAT 2024 slot 2 found the difficulty level of the paper from this slot to be similar to the previous slots of the day, i.e. moderately difficult. There were a total of 68 questions (all 3 sections combined), for which students were allowed a total of 120 minutes. The overall difficulty level in CAT 2024 slot 2 was moderate.
Section-wise Questions & Difficulty Level
VARC: There were a total of 24 questions in the VARC (Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension)
DILR: The DILR section in CAT 2024 slot 2 was easy to moderate on the difficulty level.
QA: The QA section was slightly moderate on difficulty level.

Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension-
The questions were on the similar lines as was seen in the last 3 CATs. There were questions on Reading Comprehension, Para odd one out, Para Summary and sentence placement.
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning-
As mentioned above the number of questions slightly increased in this section. There were 2 sets of 5 questions each and 3 sets of 4 questions each. One of the sets was reported to be fairly doable.
Quantitative Ability—
As expected, this section had 22 Questions. These questions were from the regular set of topics as seen in the previous CATs. Students who practiced adequately with T.I.M.E. study material and attended the lectures provided would have been able to manage them comfortably.
Overall, slot 1 can be classified as a tad bit easier than last year's examination.

According to top rankers, the exam was easier than last year. "The VARC section was moderate, DILR was manageable, and QA was also moderate. Students reacted positively, noting a little surprise in the exam. Overall, the difficulty was moderate, and higher cutoffs are to be expected this year," said Bhushan Bapat, Head of Academics, CAT Division at Supergrads, Toprankers.
According to Career Launcher, Slot 1 was comparatively tricky with verbal ability and reading comprehension easy to difficult, data interpretation and logical reasoning easy to moderate and quantitative ability moderate to difficult level.

“Overall CAT was easier than last two years. The verbal ability was level up which also excluded parajumbles. Quants were easier than expected and DILR surprised with 2 more questions (having 5 sets total). For questions that are MCQs:
– Each correct answer is awarded 3 marks
– An incorrect answer fetches -1
– No marks are given or deducted for unattempted questions
For questions other than MCQs:
– 3 marks are assigned for ‘correct answer’
– No marks for ‘incorrect answer’ or ‘no attempt’
Candidates with a valid CAT 2024 score will be allowed to register for admission to postgraduate (PG) programmes at the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and other participating colleges.
– Candidates will be required to verify and carry their original ID proof and the printed CAT 2024 admit card
– A recent photograph will have to be affixed on the CAT hall ticket 2024. The photograph pasted on the admit card should be the same as that uploaded at the CAT 2024 application form.
– Candidates will be required to drop the CAT admit card at the drop box provided after the end of the exam.
– Candidates will be provided with one pen and one scribble pad. These will also have to be deposited after the exam ends.
– Candidates cannot use the keyboard at any point in time while appearing for the CAT 2024 online. They will only have to use the mouse. Using the keyboard while taking the CAT 2024 test online will lock the computer system.
– Candidates will not be allowed to carry mobile phones, electronic gadgets, watches, calculators, their own stationery items, pens, wallets, and goggles
– Candidates will also have to agree to a Non-Disclosure Agreement at the time of appearing for CAT 2024. Under this, the CAT 2024 student cannot disclose, share, reproduce, transmit or store any information related to the exam by any means, whether verbal or written, electronically or mechanically for any purpose.
