IIT Delhi scholarships for UG, PG students

Scholarships for meritorious students at IITD not only provide academic encouragement to such students but are also important for the financial support they provide.

IIT Delhi scholarships: The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) provides scholarships to worthy and deserving students every year. While some are in the form of college fee concessions, others come as direct benefit transfers to the students’ bank accounts.

Scholarships for meritorious students at IIT Delhi not only provide academic encouragement to students but are also important for the financial support. Donor-endowed scholarships also augment the scholarships provided by IIT Delhi and support a larger number of students in their pursuit of excellence.

List of scholarships and eligibility

– BTech and MSc students who have a CGPA of 6 and a family income of at most Rs 4,50,000 per annum are eligible for merit cum means scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to at most 25 per cent of the students and provide a tuition waiver and Rs 1,000 per month. An additional 10 per cent of students meeting the income criterion are provided a tuition waiver. The tuition fee is exempted for all the students of the SC/ ST/ PwD category.

– MDes, MTech, and MS(R) students are provided teaching and research assistantships of Rs 12,400 per month. Dual degree students in the 5th year having a CGPA of 8 or more are also eligible for these scholarships.

–  PhD students are awarded a teaching/research assistantship which provides Rs 31,000 per month for the first two years and Rs 35,000 per month for the next two years of the program.

– All PhD students are eligible for a grant of Rs 1,50,000  for travel to a conference once during their program. Students demonstrating research excellence are eligible for a second such award.  

Merit and means UG scholarships

IIT Delhi offers merit cum means (MCM) scholarships to students with family income below Rs 4,50,000 lakhs per annum (LPA) and have a GPA of at least 6. However considering the high costs of tuition Rs 2,00,000 per annum (LPA), UG students at the Institute with family income above this threshold also require support.

– Donor-supported merit cum means scholarships are awarded to students who are required to pay the full tuition fee and have family income less than Rs 9,00,000 per annum. Students are selected based on their rank in JEE Advanced and continuation depends on their maintaining a CGPA of at least 7 at the end of each academic year. The scholarship amount of Rs 1,00,000 per annum covers half the tuition fee and the award is for 4 years only.

– Other options for scholarships award made in the second year, selection for academic and co-curricular achievements etc are also possible.

Scholarships for MSc Students

IIT Delhi offers 2 year MSc programmes in mathematics, physics, and chemistry, and admission to these programs is done through the Joint Admission Test for MSc (JAM). 

– Donor-supported merit cum means scholarships are awarded to students with family income between Rs 5,00,000 per annum and Rs 9,00,000 per annum. Students are selected at the time of admission based on their JAM rank and continuation into the 2nd year is contingent on their securing a CGPA of at least 7 in the first year. The scholarship of value Rs 50,000 per annum is for 2 years only.
