Founded in 1998, the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) has ranked 47 under the latest NIRF 2024 rankings under the engineering category. This year, IIIT Hyderabad did not get position in the top 100 institutions under overall rankings, but was under the rank band of 101-150.

As compared to last year, the IIIT Hyderabad has increased its ranking under engineering with 55 in 2023 and 47 in 2024. An autonomous institution accredited by both NAAC and NBA, it ranked 84 in 2023 under the overall university category of national rankings.

Not many people know that IIIT-Hyderabad was earlier known as the Indian Institute of Information Technology but was rebranded as the International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad in 2001 when it attained the status of a deemed university.

Along with CUET PG, the institute uses its entrance examination for admission purposes. The national level exam is known as the International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad Postgraduate Entrance Examination (IIIT H PGEE), the test is for students who want to apply for PG and research programmes such as MTech, MS, PhD.

Under the latest NIRF 2024 ranking, IIIT-H has a teaching, learning, and resource ecosystem (TLR) of 65.47 , and research, professional practice, and collaborative performance (RPC) stood at 40.89. The performance is indexed from a score of 100. The graduation outcome in the NIRF 2023 is 66.90 .

Under the latest NIRF 2023 ranking, IIIT-H had a teaching, learning, and resource ecosystem (TLR) of 56.57, and research, professional practice, and collaborative performance (RPC) stood at 40.60. The performance is indexed from a score of 100. The graduation outcome in the NIRF 2023 was 65.

Comparing the rankings from 2018, it is clear that the Institute thrice reached within top 50 engineering institutes of the country, however from the last two years (2022 and 2023) the Institute is witnessing a decline.

From securing 54 in 2021, it reached to 62 in 2023 and again increased its rankings in 2023 by securing 55 under engineering category.  It is the first time when the Institute secured a place in overall category of NIRF since 2018.
