NEET-NET Row 2024 Updates: The former ISRO chairman K Radhakrishnan -- who is heading the panel of committee set up by the Ministry of Education to ensure transparent and smooth conduct of examinations by the National Testing Agency (NTA) -- said their first priority will be to elicit concerns, and suggestions from parents and students.

NTA NEET UG 2024 Row: The NTA has announced the revised date of the cancelled UGC NET 2024 June session exam. The UGC NET June 2024 exam will now be held from August 21 to September 4. The committee formed under the chairmanship of Dr K Radhakrishnan, former Chairman of ISRO is seeking suggestions, views and ideas from stakeholders, particularly students and parents between June 27 and July 7.

Meanwhile, Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi today (June 28) raised the issue of NEET UG controversy in the Lok Sabha. However, as opposition members raised slogans demanding discussion on NEET issue and the resignation of the Education Minister, the Upper House was adjourned till 12 pm today and then is adjourned till Monday.

The Supreme Court on Thursday sought a response from the NTA enquiring if there was any time limit to raise grievances regarding the NEET UG OMR sheets. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over all the cases in the alleged paper leaks in states like Bihar, Gujarat, and Jharkhand. The Bureau has also registered the first information report against the complaints. The agency is also likely to take over one more case from Maharashtra’s Latur.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan took “moral responsibility” for the loss of faith among youth and students. In the case of UGC-NET, the Minister said that the government received strong inputs indicating that the UGC-NET paper was leaked on the dark net and that the leaked paper matched the actual NET question paper. He did not, however, reveal which paper was leaked.

The National Board of Examinations (NBE) will likely conduct NEET PG in the month of August told sources to The Indian Express. There is no update on the NEET PG exam date as of now but Dr Abhijat Sheth, President, National Board of Examinations (NBE), recently told The Indian Express that the new date for the NEET PG will be announced “hopefully before next weekend.”

"He did not say anything on NEET, or railway accident, or the daily infrastructure collapses that we are hearing of," he said. "He did not speak on the serious incident that happened at the Delhi airport, in which a person lost his life," Khera said alleging the prime minister did not speak on any issue concerning the people.

NEET Row Live Updates: CUET answer key dates in the past

Last year, the provisional answer key was released on June 29, after that a number of students complained that there were numerous errors. The NTA then re-released the CUET UG 2023 provisional answer key on July 3. A total of 333 questions were dropped from it. However, another set of answer keys was released on the second week of July in which 411 questions had been dropped. The CUET UG exams were held between May 21 and June 17. The CUET UG result, last year was announced on July 15.

In 2022, the provisional answer keys were released on September 8 and the final answer key was released on September 16. The exams were held between July 15 and August 30 in 20 days and 38 slots.

NEET 2024 Row Live Updates: 'NTA established as an autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization'

"In pursuance of the Budget Announcement 2017-18 (Para 52) and subsequent approval of the Union Cabinet in its meeting held on 10-11-2017, National Testing Agency (NTA) has been established as an autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for higher educational institutions in the country. Accordingly, NTA has been registered as a Society under the Societies (Registration) Act, 1860 vide Registration No. S/ND/914/2018 dated 15-05-2018.

As per Government of India Order F.No.35-5/2017-TS.1 dated 05-09-2018, NTA was initially asked to conduct those examinations which were being conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

NTA conducts exams on the instructions of Government or appropriate authorities, for example CUET (UG) and CUET (PG) are conducted on behalf of the University Grants Commission.

NTA comes under the purview of RTI Act, 2005 as a Public Authority," NTA said in an official notice on X.

NEET UG Row 2024: Govt ready for discussion on NEET but that should happen by maintaining decorum, Pradhan tells

The Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday said the government is ready for discussion on the medical entrance exam NEET but that should take place as per tradition and by maintaining decorum.
Interacting with reporters after the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day amid protests by the opposition demanding a discussion on the alleged irregularities in the conduct of NEET-UG, the minister appealed to them not to confuse the students "The government is ready for every kind of discussion, but everything should happen following norms and maintaining decorum. The President spoke about the exam in her speech yesterday and it shows the government's intention that we are ready to face any issue," Pradhan said outside Parliament.
He said the government's responsibility is towards the youth and students of the country.
"When the government is ready to put forth its side then what is the confusion? We are going to take the strictest action and the CBI is going to nab everyone (involved). We will not spare anyone," Pradhan said

"We are not going to spare anyone. Those in charge of NTA have been removed and the responsibility has been given to senior officials. All of this is proof of the government's commitment. I want to appeal to the opposition that they should not confuse the students," Pradhan said.
"A credible high-level committee has also been formed for reforms. Soon, the dates of all those exams (postponed or cancelled) will also be announced. I request the opposition to join the discussion," he added.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to hold a "respectful" and good discussion in Parliament on the issue of alleged irregularities in the conduct of the NEET exam as it concerns the country's youth and their future.
Addressing reporters in Parliament complex, Gandhi said the NEET issue should be discussed before the Motion of Thanks on the President's address is taken up.
The NEET issue is the most important issue of the day, and the opposition parties have agreed that it should be taken up for discussion before anything else, the Congress leader told reporters.
"The youth are worried and they do not know what is going to happen. A message and assurance should go to the youth from Parliament that India's government and the opposition are together in raising the concerns of students," he said.
Gandhi said the INDIA bloc thinks this is the most important matter.
"I request the prime minister that since this is an issue concerning the youth, there should be a good and respectful discussion on the issue concerning the youth," he said, urging them to join the discussion.
He said the opposition members will hold the discussion respectfully.
The former Congress chief said during their meeting on Thursday, all opposition floor leaders unanimously felt that there should be a discussion on the NEET issue in Parliament.
"I want to tell the students of the country that this is their issue and we all in the INDIA bloc feel that your issue is the most important as you are India's future" Gandhi said.

NEET 2024 Live Updates: CBI team records statements of NEET candidates, school owner in Godhra

A CBI team investigating the NEET-UG malpractices case on Thursday recorded statements of three candidates who had allegedly paid an accused for helping them clear the medical entrance test held at a private school near Godhra in Gujarat.
Besides the three candidates and their parents, the investigators were also questioning Dixit Patel, owner of the local Jay Jalaram School, at the Godhra circuit house, an official said.
A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team has been camping in Gujarat for the last four days to probe alleged malpractice during the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test held on May 5.
The school run by Dixit Patel was one of the exam centres.
The team had on Wednesday visited two private schools in Gujarat's Kheda and Panchmahal districts as part of its probe. CBI officials first visited Jay Jalaram International School on Sevaliya-Balasinor highway in Kheda district, and later the Jay Jalaram School at Godhra in Panchmahal district.
Both the schools, located 100 km apart, are owned by Patel.

NEET-UG Row Live Updates: NSUI members storm NTA HQ and lock its office

The Congress's student and youth wings took to the streets in the national capital on Thursday over alleged irregularities in the conduct of the NEET-UG and UGC-NET exams, with NSUI members forcefully entering the NTA headquarters and locking its office, and the IYC protesting at Jantar Mantar.

The National Students' Union of India (NSUI) has threatened to lock NTA offices across the country if their demand to ban the National Testing Agency (NTA) is not met.

Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the protesters at Jantar Mantar where the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), Left-affiliated All India Students Association (AISA) and Delhi University's Krantikari Yuva Sangathan continued their indefinite sit-in for the second day on Thursday.

At the NTA headquarters at Okhla, NSUI members stormed into the agency's headquarters during a protest led by its national president Varun Choudhary.

The students' body staged a sit-in inside the NTA office for nearly an hour and left by the time senior police officers reached the spot.
Visuals from the scene showed NSUI members raising "shut down NTA" slogans inside the building of the agency. It also showed students locking the NTA office with an iron lock and chain.

"The NTA officials had locked the door from inside as students were protesting. Subsequently, the protesters also locked the door from outside with an iron chain and lock," a police officer said.

"No more Corrupt NTA. #NTA BAN," read a message pasted on the iron lock and chain.

NEET 2024 Row Live Updates: In first arrests, CBI nabs 2 from Patna

The CBI has made its first arrests in the NEET-UG paper leak case, taking into custody two persons from Patna, officials said Thursday. Manish Kumar and Ashutosh Kumar allegedly provided safe premises to the aspirants before the examination where they were given leaked papers and answer keys, the officials said.

The CBI has registered six FIRs in the NEET paper leak case. The NEET-UG is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.

This year's examination was conducted on May 5 at 4,750 centres in 571 cities, including 14 abroad. Over 23 lakh candidates appeared for the test.

NEET 2024 Row Live Updates: In Godhra, CBI records statements of NEET candidates ‘who paid accused’, submits FIR in court

The CBI team investigating alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) on Thursday began recording statements of students who took the exam at a Godhra school and had allegedly made advance payments to the accused in the case.

The CBI also submitted its FIR in a sealed envelope to the District Sessions Court in Panchmahal to initiate the legal proceedings for seeking the custody of the accused.

In the morning, CBI officials summoned students who allegedly had been in touch with and even handed over cheques to the accused before the examination was held at Jay Jalaram School in Parvadi village on May 5.

Addressing a press conference here, he also termed the monsoon session of the state legislature, which commenced on Thursday, as the “send-off” session of the government led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He demanded that farm loans be waived before the assembly elections, scheduled later this year.

Earlier in the day, legislators belonging to the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) comprising the Sena (UBT), Congress and NCP (SP) raised slogans against the government over the NEET exam on the premises of the legislature complex.

NEET 2024 Row Live Updates: SC issues notice to NTA over OMR sheets

The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) to apprise it whether there is any time limit for raising grievances regarding the OMR sheets provided to the candidates who appeared in NEET-UG 2024.

A vacation bench of Justices Manoj Misra and SVN Bhatti, which issued notice to the NTA on a fresh plea filed by a private coaching centre and few NEET candidates, tagged the petition with the pending matters and listed it for hearing on July 8.

Senior advocate R Basant, appearing for the coaching institute and the candidates, submitted that a few students, who have appeared for the examination, have not got the OMR sheets.

NEET 2024 Row Live Updates: Indian Youth Congress protests over NEET exam irregularities, Agniveer scheme

Indian Youth Congress (IYC) on Thursday held a demonstration here at Jantar Mantar over the alleged rigging of the NEET UG exam and against the Agniveer Scheme. Several IYC workers gathered at the Jantar Mantar for the protest, raising slogans and carrying placards.

The NEET-UG examination was held on May 5 across 4,750 centres, and around 24 lakh candidates appeared. The results were expected to be declared on June 14 but were announced on June 4, saying the evaluation of the answer sheets was completed earlier.

NEET 2024 Row Live Updates: CBI arrests two from Patna in NEET-UG case for ‘arranging accommodation for examinees’

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has taken over the NEET-UG paper ‘leak’ case from Bihar’s Economic Offences Unit (EOU), Thursday arrested two people from Patna. The two had allegedly made arrangements for accommodation for NEET-UG examinees on May 4, a day before the exam – the same day they allegedly memorised the solved paper. Four examinees are among 13 accused in the case, besides five more arrests made later. 

The CBI arrested Manish Prakash from Patna for allegedly arranging accommodation on the request of one Ashutosh Kumar, who was also arrested later from the state capital.

Prakash’s wife Archana said, “The CBI called me around 1.30 pm to say that my husband has been arrested. He is a social worker who would often help people with making stay arrangements for students. I had heard someone asking him on the phone to make arrangements for four-five students. We had no idea about the enormity of trouble he has now landed in.”

Around 20 students were detained at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday during a protest against the alleged irregularities in the conduct of NEET-UG, the nationwide entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission in medical programmes.

Student representatives from Bhagat Singh Chhatra Ekta Manch (BsCEM), All India Students Association (Aisa), Krantikari Yuva Sangathan, Disha, and the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) gathered around 2 pm at Jantar Mantar for a protest-meeting.

The Madras High Court has today dismissed a plea seeking to reduce the application fee for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE), which is conducted by the Bar Council of India (BCI). The decision was announced by the bench of Acting Chief Justice R Mahadevan and Justice GR Swaminathan.

“Unlike in the case of enrolment fee, there is no statutory provision which prescribes any particular sum towards examination fee. A Writ of Mandamus can be issued only if the applicant can show the existence of a legal right. In this case, no such legal right has been shown,” the court said, as per LiveLaw.

NEET 2024 Row Live Updates: NTA's response on time limit to raise the grievances pertaining to OMR sheets

The Supreme Court on Thursday sought a response from the National Testing Agency (NTA) on the petition that claimed "inconsistent" calculation of marks on the OMR sheets used for the NEET-UG 2024 exam. A vacation bench of Justices Manoj Misra and SVN Bhatti issued a notice and sought the NTA's response by July 8, the date of the next hearing.
The petition filed by the learning app Xylem Learning also brought up the issue of the time limit for raising the grievance regarding the OMR sheets. "Let us know if there is a timeline to provide the OMR sheets. As of now, we will tag it. Let NTA seek instructions on this," said the bench.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) website and all its other web portals are fully secure, and reports that these have been compromised and hacked are wrong and misleading, officials said on Sunday.

The clarification comes amid a raging row over alleged irregularities in competitive exams, including the NEET-UG and the UGC-NET. The education ministry on Saturday set up a panel to review the NTA’s functioning, recommend exam reforms and ensure data security.

Rupa Yadav, the child bride from a small village in Rajasthan, hit the headlines after clearing NEET UG 2017. Yadav is now a full-time doctor, a mother of two children, and a NEET PG 2024 aspirant. She is doing all this while being commissioned as a medical officer at a primary health care centre at the Khariya village of Nagaur district.

NEET PG 2024 was postponed last week by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). The new dates are expected to be out soon. “I have been preparing tirelessly for the entrance exam. The night before the NEET exam, I woke up at 2 am to nurse my eight-month-old son and saw the news update flashing on my phone. I thought it was fake but then when everyone started sharing this, I realised the exam is not happening in the morning,” said Yadav.

The government is fully committed to investigating the recent incidents of paper leaks and ensure that the guilty are punished, President Droupadi Murmu said in her address to a joint sitting of Parliament.

Addressing the 18th Lok Sabha for the first time, the president said her government is working to create an environment to enable youth of the country dream big and achieve them. As she mentioned steps taken by the government on the education front, some opposition members were heard shouting "NEET".

"If due to any reason there is obstruction in examinations it is not appropriate. Sanctity, transparency are a must in government recruitments and examinations," she said. "The government is committed to conduct fair investigation and ensure the most stringent punishment to those guilty in the recent incidents of paper leak," she said.

The Kerala Assembly on Wednesday unanimously passed a resolution condemning the irregularities in the entrance exams, NEET and NET, conducted by the National Testing Agency and demanding that the Centre take urgent steps to address grievances of affected candidates.

Both the ruling LDF and the opposition Congress-led UDF were in agreement that the recently reported irregularities in the NEET-UG and UGC-NET exams call into question the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) credibility and its competence to conduct such entrance tests.

They were also of the view that such incidents call into question the competence of the students or candidates who take these tests.
