NEET UG 2022 Result Updates: Meet toppers of medical entrance exam

Over the last four years, the overall pass percentage of NEET-UG has remained nearly constant, but some states including Gujarat, Meghalaya and Nagaland have made big gains. A few like Telangana, Kerala and Manipur have shown a dip in performance. Apart from Assam (51.37 per cent), Manipur (54.72 per cent), Meghalaya (51.13 per cent), Nagaland (54.51 per cent), Tripura (49.59 per cent) and Sikkim (43.89 per cent), the states which registered pass percentages below the national average in 2022 are Tamil Nadu (51.3 per cent), Chhattisgarh (48.73 per cent), Kerala (55.01 per cent), Madhya Pradesh (44.88 per cent), and Uttar Pradesh (53.52 per cent).

In the NEET results announced by the National Testing Agency, nine candidates from Karnataka featured in the top 50 category and three in the top 10 category. In Karnataka, 1,33,255 candidates had registered out of which 1,22,423 appeared and 72,262 qualified this year.

The qualified candidates have to further complete the formalities with the respective counselling authorities viz DGHS, Medical Education Directorates of States, etc. for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses.

The counselling for 15% All India Quota Seats, Deemed Universities, Central Universities, Seats of ESIC and AFMC, BHU & AMU will be conducted by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Government of India.Candidates will apply for 15% All India Quota seats as per the directions of DGHS and counselling will be stopped once the seats are exhausted.

Along with the results, the NTA has also released the NEET UG 2022 qualifying cut-off on the scorecards. Candidates who have secured the qualifying cut-off will only be considered for the further admission process. The minimum qualifying cutoff by NTA has been released on the scorecard.

A total 9 positions out of the top 50 were secured by students from Karnataka. Highest number of positions from a state this year. Karnataka was followed by Gujarat and Delhi (NCT) at 5, followed by Tealanga at 4.

The maximum number of candidates opted for English as their language of instruction (14,76,024) followed by Hindi (2,58,827). Gujarati was the third most preferred language (49,638) and the most preferred regional language.

Out of the total 18,72,343 students who registered for the exam, 17,64,571 appeared for it and 9,93,069 qualified the exam. The maximum number of students registered from Maharashtra, followed by Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu respectively.

In yet another shocing incident from Tamil Nadu, a 19-year-old girl in Tiruvallur district allegedly died by suicide after she failed to clear the NEET-UG exams. This is the seventh incident reported from the state in this year.

The NTA used a new and revised tie-breaking policy for the NEET UG exam. The key nine factors for this tie-breaker are:

1. Candidates achieving higher marks/percentiles in Biology (Botany and Zoology), followed by
2. The candidate with the highest mark/percentile in Chemistry, followed by
3. The candidate who achieved the highest marks/percentile score in Physics in the test followed by
4. Candidates with fewer incorrect answers than correct answers in all the subjects in the test, followed by
5. A candidate with the lowest proportion of incorrect responses to correct responses in Biology (Botany and Zoology) is the winner, followed by
6. Candidate with the lowest ratio of incorrect answers to correct answers in Chemistry, followed by
7. The candidate with a lesser percentage of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Physics, followed by
8. Candidate older in age, followed by
9. NEET application number in ascending order

The All India Rank (AIR) 1 holder chose to enter the medical field as she believes this is a profession in which “you can establish yourself by helping others”, she said. Interestingly, not just NEET-UG, Tanishka has also appeared for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main exams, in which she scored 99.50 percentile. Read more about the topper here

This year, the overall pass percentage stood at 56.28, nearly the same as last year. A look at the qualifying criteria, however, shows that cut-offs dipped across categories –  in the case of general candidates from 138 in 2021 to 117 this year and from 108 to 93 in the case SC, ST and OBC candidates. In 2020, the cut-offs were even higher at 147 for general candidates and 113 for reserved categories. There is no immediate plan to merge engineering and medical entrances with the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) and no such combined exam will be held at least in the next two years, Union Education Minister Dharmenda Pradhan has said. Step 4: Calculate your score by checking the answer key.
Step 5: Download and take a print out of your final answer key for further use and reference.

After releasing the final score cards in the late hours of September 7, the NTA has now released the final answer keys.

The maximum number of candidates who have cleared NEET-UG this year are from Maharashtra (1,13,812), followed by Rajasthan (82,548), and Karnataka (72,262).

NTA deployed new tie-breaker policy to award the first rank to Tanishka followed by the second rank to Vatsa Ashish Batra, third position to Hrishikesh Nagbhushan Gangule and AIR 4 to Rucha Pawashe.This year, NTA had six new factors to break a tie as opposed to three last year. Tanishka is Allen Coaching institute student. As per a release shared by them, Tanishka wishes to study at AIIMS Delhi. Her parents motivated her and never pressurised her. She used to self-study for 6-7 hours daily. Tanishka passed Class 12 this year with 98.6 percent marks.  Whereas in Class 10th she had secured 96.4 percent marks. Apart from this, she has scored 99.50 percentile in JEE Main. Tanishka wants to specialize in cardio, neuro or oncology. The family is originally from Narnaul, Haryana.

This is probably the best gift for NEET topper Tanishka to her parents who are teachers. Rajasthan girl has secured AIR 1 scoring 99.99 percentile.

There are 16 female candidates in the list of top 50, including the all India topper - Tanishka from Rajasthan. She scored 715 marks.  In total, 5.63 lakh candidates cleared the exam.Among the top 50 candidates, nine belong to Karnataka, followed by Gujarat and Delhi with five each; Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal  threw up four toppers each; Rajasthan and Maharashtra three each; Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu Haryana two each;  Punjab, Jammu , Goa, Uttar Pradesh,  Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Kerala one each. 

Top 4 candidates are tied at the same percentile this year. “We used the new tie-breaker rule to award ranks to these four candidates,” a senior NTA official told The Indian Express.

Category-wise break-ups of the qualifying candidates show that 13.3 per cent are SCs, 45.08 per cent OBCs and 4.7 per cent STs, as against last year's 13.1 per cent, 4.6 per cent and 45.6 per cent respectively.

A girl has topped the NEET exam this year. Tanishka from Rajasthan with 99.9997733 percentile. Vatsa Ashish Batra from Delhi holds All-India Rank 2 and Hrishikesh Nagbhushan Gangule from Karnataka is at the third position.

English is the most preferred language among NEET aspirants. This year, too, almost 80% of the 18 lakh candidates opted to take the exam in English. This was followed by Hindi and Gujarati. 

NEET is conducted in 13 languages namely English, Hindi, Assamese, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
