For the first time in five years, the National Institution of Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) secured 8 position under the National Institutional Ranking Framework's (NIRF) Architecture category 2023. The Rourkela-based institute is the only educational institution to be under the top 10 category. However, analysing the institute's positions in global and national ranking, it has so far seen a downward trend. In the QS World university rankings 2023, the institute ranked 67 in southern Asia. Additionally, it also offers distinct programmes such as BTech in food process engineering, biotechnology and medical engineering, ceramic engineering as well as bachelor of architecture to meet the demands of contemporary times in accordance with National Education policy. The Institute declined by 5 points in research and decreased by a one rank and reached 16 position for engineering category, even though its score for NIRF domestic has been increased since the past five years. In 2022, the Rourkela institute had secured 24 position which dropped by 2023.
