Now, CCTVs to keep a watch over 310 PMC schools

“There are 310 civic schools and over one lakh students studying there,” she said, adding, it was the responsibility of the civic education board to ensure safety of students. “The installation of CCTVs is a precautionary measure to ensure there is no untoward incident on the premises and buildings of the civic schools,” said Kakade.

The PMC Education Board has submitted its draft budget for 2017-18, proposing a hike of Rs 36 crore in its expenditure in comparison with the current financial year. The estimated expenditure is Rs 377.41 crore for 2017-18 as against Rs 341.42 crore for 2016-17. The board has also decided to focus on generating solar power within its premises and to install solar panels across civic school buildings. A total of Rs 3 crore has been allotted for the same in the draft budget.

“The generation of power through solar panels installed on the school building rooftops would also set a good example for the students about the use of renewable energy,” she added.

Incidentally, the PMC standing committee had turned down the proposal of the civic administration to install solar panels on all buildings, including schools owned by the civic body.

“The civic body provides uniform to all primary and secondary civic school students. This year, it would be made available for all pre-primary students in civic schools,” she said.
