Based on reactions by students, the exam was in tune with that of the previous two days. Students who appeared for the exam on January 7 considered the exam to be more difficult than that of the last years’. The questions, as per experts were trickier, as the time spent per question is increased since under the new paper pattern number of questions has decreased. Based on January 6 feedback the mathematics section was deemed as the most difficult. This was also observed on day 2 and now on day 3.

A total of 11 lakh candidates have applied to appear for engineering, architecture and planning entrance exams. The exams are held by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in two shifts — morning from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and afternoon from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

In the mathematics section of JEE Main, all chapters covered in Calculus and Coordinate Geometry. Students reported it to be a difficult section compared to Physics and Chemistry. Questions are reported lengthy in math and more weightage to class 12 topics compared to class 11.

The AIR 2, Dhruv Arora from Indore followed a strategy while attempting the exam. In an interview with the indianexpress.com, he said that he quickly finished the easy part and save more time to devote to relatively difficult questions. Advising others, he had said, “those preparing for JEE Mains should also practice and familiarise themselves with the type of questions that are asked in the exam as well as with the format. Solving previous years’ question papers is a help”
Since JEE gives percentile score, not just one but many can score a 100 percentile. In JEE Main 2019, a total of 24 candidates have secured a perfect 100 percentile score out of over 11.4 lakh candidates who appeared in both sessions combined.
Tomorrow is the last date of the JEE Main January session. Candidates will also get a second chance in April session. The best score obtained by a candidate in either of the two sessions will be counted. It is not mandatory to appear in both sessions. For April session the applications will begin from February 7 and will conclude on March 7. The exam will be held on April 3, 2020. Compared to Day 1, the level was similar. Physics section was Moderate with the majority of questions being asked from Mechanics and Electric Current. Maths was Moderate and lengthy. The JEE Main January exams are following a similar pattern so far. Saurabh Kumar, director academics, Vidyamandir classes informed, "today's exam was good. Maths continued to be the most difficult section followed by Physics and then Chemistry. In the Chemistry section, most of the questions were based on the NCERT. In Physics, questions were asked from concepts based on both class 11 and 12. Mathematics tend to be on the higher side with most of the question from calculus and coordinate geometry."

Certain questions in the mathematics section were difficult while the overall section was moderate. If candidates maintain their calm throughout those questions or just skip the tricky ones, the section was of moderate level of difficulty. Physics too had tricky questions wherein several questions were merged into one questions making it time-consuming.
Despite the call for Bandh, the JEE Main exam was conducted successfully today. The first session of the exam has been over and the second is about to begin in a while. In case of any error or query, candidates need to immediately contact the authorities at the NTA at 0120-6895200. The number will active on working days, exclusive of weekends from 10 am to 6 pm.
The trade unions had earlier called to postpone the JEE Main due to their nationwide strike. Today’s JEE question paper could be classified as moderate to high difficulty level. With most students finding Chemistry as the easiest section on the paper, Maths and Physics were found to be of similar difficulty. Of total, if candidates would have got 47 questions right, they can expect 188 score. This should be enough to get a decent rank. The integer type questions do not have any negative mark and hence these questions also can help in boosting one's marks, if all attempted.
Candidates who know at 14-17 questions in Physics, 17-19 in Chemistry and 16-18 in mathematics can consider it to be a good attempt.
In JEE Main 2019, a total of 9,29,198 students registered for the JEE Main in January against 9,35,741 appearing for the same in April session. A rise of 6,543 candidates for engineering courses was registered. However, an exact reverse trend was observed in architecture courses where the number of candidates dropped from 1,80,052 in January to 1,69,767 in April with a dip of 10,285 students. In 2019, as many as 24 candidates have secured 100 percentile. Out of these 15 are from January session and further 9 more students have secured 100 percentile score in April attempt.
Apart from JEE Main, candidates can also appear for Manipal Entrance Test (MET), VIT Engineering Entrance Exam, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology Entrance Exam (KIITEE), LPU National Entrance and Scholarship Test (LPU NEST), SRM Joint Entrance Examination Engineering (SRMJEEE UG). Students reported questions were largely from NCERT especially chapters of Inorganic Chemistry. They felt Class XI topics had more weightage. This was the easiest part of the exam, as reported by the student. All chapter including environmental chemistry and chemistry in everyday life were covered.
Most questions from Math were from calculus and coordinate geometry. This section was more difficult than last year. No questions were asked from height and distance in trigonometry.
In Physics, several questions were lengthy and few questions were of mixed concept type which required more time and several concepts. It was moderately difficult, as per the students' reaction.
As per the new pattern, there were questions involving numerical answers where students had to type the answer correct to two decimal places. These questions had no negative marking.

This has increased the difficulty level of the exam as compared to last year. The cut-off will be from 300 and not 360 marks and hence is expected to be much lower than last years. According to experts from Vidyamandir, Chemistry was the easiest section followed by Physics and mathematics was the toughest. A similar trend was observed yesterday when maths was the most difficult session. The difficulty level of the exam was higher than that of the last year's.
First slot over, second to begin at 2:30 pm. Based on the feedback of slot one students the JEE Main January 2020 exam, was of moderate level of difficulty. Last year's AIR 1 too found the January session more difficult that the April one.

Only the candidates who secure a rank in top 2,45,000 in JEE Main are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. Last year, 1.65 lakh candidates opted to apply for IIT-entrance exam, hinting towards a downfall in the craze for going to IITs among engineering aspirants. The high fee of Advanced and much fewer seats at IITs as compared to easy availability of colleges based on JEE Main score, lead to fewer applications for JEE Advanced over the year.
A total of 11,47,125 candidates appeared for JEE Main 2019 — including both the January and April — out of which only 24 students secured 100 percentile. This year 11 lakh have applied in January only.
A Control Room has been opened and 30 State Coordinators, 240 City Coordinators and 600 Observers have been positioned. A third-party audit of all examination centres was also completed. Further, during exam live CCTV surveillance is conducted to ensure cheating-free exam.
Last year's topper Srivastava started his JEE Main preparation right after class 10. “I was regular to school. I also joined a coaching class to get study material and training. Since the exam is based on NCERT books, mostly, the concepts are same and one can prepare for boards and entrance exam simultaneously,” he said.
Shubham Srivastava who got All India Rank (AIR) 1 secured 99.96 percentile in his January attempt. He scored 100 percentile in the April exam. The NTA since past two years is conducting the exam twice a year. This saves candidates a year, in case they have not scored well in the exam. Hence, the candidates should not be too worried and take this session as an experience.
The number of questions to be asked in the JEE Main has been reduced from 30 to 25 and out of the 25 questions. Of the 25, only 20 will be multiple-choice questions (MCQ) while five will be long-form questions. The move came after several stakeholders criticized the MCQ-only exams by saying that they do not assess the candidates holistically. Most questions asked in this section were from calculus and combination etc. Questions were also asked from 3D figures wherein students had to answer how a particular figure would look like if viewed from a certain perspective or if the figure was opened/dissected, as told by students. read more

In yesterday's exam, the mathematics section was not only the most difficult amongst other sections but was also tougher than that of the previous years’. This year only two questions were asked in the drawing section as compared to three last year, as suggested by the candidates.
A total of 921261 have applied to appear for BE or BTech entrance examination for JEE Mains. The BArch exam was held yesterday. The JEE Main - engineering, architecture and planning - will be held till January 9. Including all three segments, over 11 lakh have applied for the exam.
