Aditya Pancholi’s daughter was replaced by Kangana Ranaut in her debut film, Zarina Wahab says, ‘We don’t even joke about it anymore’
Zarina Wahab recalled how her daughter Sana was replaced by Kangana Ranaut in Suneel Darshan's Shakalaka Boom Boom.
Kangana Ranaut replaced Aditya Pancholi's daughter in Shakalaka Boom Boom.Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab’s son, Sooraj Pancholi, has been trying to make it in the movies since 2015’s Hero. Their daughter, Sana Pancholi, was also an aspiring actress in the early 2000s. Interestingly, Sana was supposed to make her debut in 2005’s Shakalaka Boom Boom, but was replaced by Kangana Ranaut. Sana’s father Aditya and Kangana were allegedly having an affair during that time. Later, Kangana accused him of physical and mental harassment and he filed a defamation suit against her. In a recent interview, when Sana’s mother was asked about her getting replaced in her debut film, she said that Sana never wanted to be an actor in the first place.
She shared with Lehren Retro, “That was not her cup of tea. She never wanted to be an actress. Like, how you force in the family, ‘kar lo beta’ but she was like, ‘nahi mumma mujhe nahi karna‘. Firstly, she doesn’t wear sleeveless tops, or other short clothes. She was given a low-neck thing to wear, she came back running. She didn’t even come out of her room. Then they took someone else, that was the main thing. She still doesn’t wear such clothes.” Zarina insisted that Sana “doesn’t want to be an actress.” “We never even talk about it now, not even in a joking way,” she said.

In a 2013 interview with Hindustan Times, Sana said that she had no regrets about losing the film and shared, “Shakalaka Boom Boom didn’t go according to the plan. But I don’t have any regrets.” Contrary to what her mother said, Sana shared that she actually studied acting in Los Angeles but wanted to pursue parts in “realistic movies.” She said, “I have studied acting in LA. But I don’t want to dance around. I’m good at dancing but I’m not interested in that kind of cinema. I want to do realistic movies. I’ve got a lot of offers but I can’t picture myself doing them.”
Earlier this year, Shakalaka Boom Boom director Suneel Darshan explained what happened with the film’s casting. He shared with Times Now that Kangana was “almost locked in the for the role,” but then she “suddenly went off the radar and was untraceable.” It was during this period that Suneel cast Sana in the film. But, things didn’t work out with her, and they “traced” Kangana in Dubai. “Unfortunately, things didn’t work out with Sana as the role demanded a different personality and profile. Kangana was traced in Dubai and immediately flown into Johannesburg to start filming,” he said.
Shakalaka Boom Boom also starred Bobby Deol, Upen Patel and Celina Jaitly.
