Akshay Kumar’s upcoming film Sky Force, which marks the debut of actor Veer Pahariya, has been compared to 2024’s aerial action drama, Fighter, ever since its trailer and posters were first unveiled. Starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, Fighter was released to lukewarm response last year. Ahead of Sky Force’s release, Fighter director Siddharth Anand shared a post on X, which many have perceived as a jibe at Akshay’s Sky Force.
Siddharth Anand shared a cryptic post on X on the eve on Sky Force’s release. His post read, “Hahahaha!! Insecurity hits new lows! I feel so important today! Have faith in your own self! Come on yo!! An old saying – By blowing off another candle, won’t make yours burn brighter! But alas…”

Reacting to the post, an X user wrote, “Both will be replica to each other. Skyforce will be Fighter of 2025. BO collections will confirm this,” while another posted, “Why are you reacting to it? Feeling insecure? It’s a different movie, different releases in a different year. Let it be whatever it does. You made a movie with 400 Cr. This one is made for free (they say the budget is 80 Cr whereas Akshay Kumar alone charges 100 Cr).”
Hrithik-Deepika’s film Fighter released on January 25, 2024. It also starred Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover, Akshay Oberoi and Sanjeeda Shaikh as IAF officers. While it emerged as one of the highest-grossing films of 2024, it received mixed reviews. Siddharth had claimed that the movie under-performed because the majority of the country hadn’t experienced air travel. “Fighter is a huge leap for a filmmaker. It’s a space that is unexplored and absolutely new. It has no reference point for the audience. They are like, ‘What are these planes doing?’ There is a huge percentage of our country, I would say, 90 per cent, who have not flown in planes, who have not been to an airport, so how would they know what’s happening in the movie? This is my dissection. They felt this is a little alien. They didn’t understand what kind of exhilaration they are supposed to feel in the air action, so there is a certain initial disconnect,” he told Galatta Plus.
Sky Force is said to be ‘an untold story of honor, courage and patriotism that deserves to be shared’ and is based on a pivotal moment in Indian history. Sky Force features Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya as IAF officers. The film is about country’s retaliatory attack on Pakistan’s Sargodha airbase during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1965 which is remembered as India’s first and deadliest airstrike.
The film also stars Sara Ali Khan, Nimrat Kaur, and Sharad Kelkar in important roles.
A day earlier, Akshay Kumar shared in a post, “I’ve been a part of over 150 films, but there’s something uniquely powerful about the words “based on a true story.” And to top it off, stepping into the uniform of an Air Force officer has been nothing short of incredible. Sky Force is an untold story of honor , courage and patriotism that deserves to be shared. Watch it in cinemas starting tomorrow!”
Sky Force is helmed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani, and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Amar Kaushik, and Jyoti Deshpande, Sky Force is set to hit theatres on January 24, 2025, which is right in time for Republic Day weekend.
