Veteran actor Anupam Kher says there is an “emotional memory” between him and superstars Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor as they all pretty much started together and had an “extra zeal about life.”

In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Kher spoke about his friendship and said they have lasted over the decades because their foundation was strong.

“They are friends. Nobody knew where they will reach. There was a certain amount of bonding, there were no mobile phones, vanity vans, entourage of social media manager, manager, publicity guy, nothing. There were just conversations, that’s why when I meet these people–we don’t very often–there is a certain emotional memory between us. All the films I did with Shah Rukh, Aamir, Salman, or for that matter even Amrish ji,” he said.

Kher added that he recently attended the birthday bash of actor Hema Malini and realised that the party had the same “warmth” of late 80s and early 90s as people of that era joined in for the celebration.

“Recently I went for Hema ji’s birthday bash, it was such an amazing feeling to be there because everyone from that time came and there were not carrying anyone with them. Everyone was meeting each other, there was a bond, Hema ji was singing, Jeetendra ji came, so many people came.

“It felt like we were having a party in late 80s or early 90s. There was a warmth, there were relationships. I am not passing a judgement on today’s times. We have more Facebook friends than real life friends. We were all making it, which added another dimension to it. Whether it was Aamir, Shah Rukh, we were all trying to make it. There was an extra zeal about life. Which I am sure these people have retained, and so have I,” he added.
