Although what they want from their home is the same, relaxation and comfort, Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor and his wife Mira Rajput’s aesthetic preferences differ. Yet, they have successfully merged their styles to create a space that reflects both their personalities. Spanning approximately 10,000 square feet, their four-bedroom duplex in Mumbai seamlessly integrates areas for living, working, entertainment and leisure.
“While he likes to be a lot more experimental and creative, I only think about how practical things are and if it is easy to clean. So, it was about finding the right balance between form and function and allowing both our personalities to shine,” Mira shared as she welcomed the Architectural Digest India team into their elegantly curated Mumbai residence. A quick look around the house highlights Mira’s love for sculptural lighting and her deep appreciation for art, something she openly acknowledges. Among the standout pieces in their collection is a striking Yuvan Bothysathuvar painting, prominently displayed in the formal dining area.
At the heart of the home is a dramatic black geometric staircase, around which the various rooms and spaces are arranged. The interiors embrace natural elements, with abundant greenery, ample sunlight, clean lines, soft earthy tones and rich textures. Designed entirely online over 14 months during the Covid pandemic, the home holds special significance for the family. “This house is where the four of us (Mira, Shahid and their two kids) have found ourselves all together; our first one for all of us,” she mentioned.
The upper section of the house features a glam room, a guest suite, a home theatre and lounge, Shahid’s DJ setup, an open-air gym on the deck, a small pantry and an office. During the chat, Mira also credited her mother’s influence for shaping her idea of a home’s warm and welcoming ambience. She said, “Growing up, my mom loved entertaining. She really is the perfect hostess, and there were always people at our house. That’s the kind of home I wanted to create, full of fresh flowers and enough food on the table. That’s something I wanted to recreate, that feeling of an inviting home.”
