Rajkumar Hirani is regarded as one of the most popular and most successful film directors in the Hindi film industry. After successes like Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai and 3 Idiots, Hirani was planning to make PK, where Aamir Khan was cast to play the lead character of an alien. In a recent interview, Hirani said that he had to change the script of PK because it looked very similar to Christopher Nolan's Inception. Talking to Galatta Plus, Hirani said that when they were writing PK, Inception released and he could see the similarities between the two, so he decided to change his film as he did not want to get accused of copying Nolan's film. "When we started writing PK, Inception came and we realised our film was like Inception. PK had the power of getting into people's minds and changing what they had experienced in their life. Because we felt, you become cynical about certain things if you have experienced life in a particular way. So if your experience can change, your cynicism will not be there, you become a different person. So we had gone on that path. So we realised if you do this, it will look like we have copied Inception," he said. Hirani said that after this, they started writing something else where PK ends up in a courtroom but by that time, Akshay Kumar-starrer OMG – Oh My God released and he realised that PK was similar to this film. "We started writing something else. Then OMG – Oh My God came, which is also. We had waked that path also, of him going to the courtroom. So the second half kept on changing," Hirani said. The filmmaker said that they went through many iterations for the film's second half but were not satisfied with any of those. He then actually shot it but was "not very satisfied with it." "Then we shot 20 minutes of it all over again so all these things put together took a lot of time," he said. PK also starred Anushka Sharma, Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjay Dutt. The film was the biggest Bollywood hit of 2014.
