A day before Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi’s Bhool Chuk Maaf’s theatrical release, the makers of the film took to their official social media handles to announce the romantic comedy will now have a direct-to-OTT release on Prime Video. The makers cited recent events and heightened security drills across the nation as the reason behind this sudden change in the release plans. The film will now stream on May 16.
The production house behind Bhool Chuk Maaf, Maddock Films took to its official X handle to share a statement that read: “In light of recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation, we at Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to bring our family entertainer, Bhool Chuk Maaf, directly to your homes on May 16–only on Prime Video, worldwide.”
They added, “While we were eagerly looking forward to celebrating this film with you in theatres, the spirit of the nation comes first. Jai Hind.”

The makers of the film had shared a post about 21 hours ago announcing the opening of advance bookings for the film on BookMyShow. However, the option to book for tickets has been disabled by the booking app. The film directed by Karan Sharma is produced by the man behind the Stree franchise, Dinesh Vijan. Apart from Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, the film also stars Sanjay Mishra, Seema Pahwa, Zakir Hussain, Raghubir Yadav, and Ishtiyak Khan, among others.
Bhool Chuk Maaf was earlier scheduled to have a theatrical release on May 9 with the makers releasing its bonus trailer on YouTube on May 5.
Earlier, the film was reportedly to be made with Kartik Aaryan and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles. However, Kartik dismissed these claims on his X handle saying these reports had no truth to it. The film, mostly shot in Varanasi, marks the sixth collaboration between Rajkummar and Dinesh Vijan after films Stree, Made in China, Roohi, Hum Do Hamare Do, and Stree 2.
