Rick Moranis, who starred in the original 1984 “Ghostbusters”, turned down a cameo in Paul Feig’s forthcoming reboot as it made “no sense” to him.
The 62-year-old actor played the nerdy accountant Louis Tully, who becomes possessed by a ghost and turned into the Keymaster in the original film, said The Hollywood Reporter.
“It makes no sense to me. Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago? he said. Moranis has not starred in a movie since 2006.
He stepped away from the Hollywood limelight to raise his children after the death of his wife nearly 18 years ago.
The actor said he has no ill will towards the all-female reboot and “wishes them well”. “I hope it’s terrific. he added.
Nearly all the living actors from the original 1980s films, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, and Ernie Hudson, will appear in the reboot, which is scheduled to release on July 15, 2016.
The reboot stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Chris Hemsworth, Neil Casey and Andy García.
