Nithya Menen goes to Bollywood

Nithya Menen will play a pivotal role in Akshay Kumar's upcoming movie Mission Mangal.

Akshay Kumar had recently announced on Twitter that he was excited about his next, a space movie titled Mission Mangal. Directed by debutant Jagan Shakti, this film, produced by Akshay’s home banner Cape of Good Films and Fox Star Studios, is based on Mangalyaan aka Mars Orbiter Mission.

Co-produced by PadMan director R Balki, the film also stars Sharman Joshi, Kirti Kulhari, Taapsee Pannu, Vidya Balan, Nimrat Kaur and Sonakshi Sinha in pivotal roles. Interestingly, Akshay and Vidya are reuniting after 11 years for this film.

A source revealed Mission Mangal will focus on the stories of women scientists and how the Indian Space Research Organisation completed the mission in 18 months successfully. “Vidya Balan has been approached to play the woman leading a team of scientists. The makers are in talks with Taapsee and Nimrat to play her team members,” added the source.

The latest buzz is that Nithya Menen is also a part of the project. According to sources, it was cameraman Ravivarman who had suggested her name.

Nithya has completed shooting for Praana, a multilingual film, directed by VK Prakash. The trailer of the film was also unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Apparently, Praana, which just has one character played by her, was shot in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam simultaneously. She has also signed a Malayalam film opposite Fahadh Faasil. The duo had shared screen space in 2014 multi-starrer Bangalore Days.

ISRO had launched Mangalyaan in November 2013, and India became the first country to reach the Mars orbit in the first attempt.
