The multi-hyphenate Prithviraj Sukumaran recently achieved another feat as he wrapped up the production of his third directorial venture, the monumental Mohanlal-starrer L2: Empuraan. A sequel to his debut directorial Lucifer (2019) and the second chapter in a planned trilogy, Empuraan is among the most awaited Malayalam films and is set to release in a few months.
On Sunday, the actor-director announced the film’s wrap via social media. The project, spanning 14 months, was filmed across eight Indian states and four countries, including the United Kingdom (UK), United States (US), United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Russia. The final day of shooting took place near the scenic Malampuzha reservoir in Palakkad, Kerala.

Meanwhile, amidst this busy schedule, Prithviraj was visited by a surprise guest — his wife, journalist-turned-film producer Supriya Menon. However, what could have been a heartwarming moment turned comical, as Prithviraj, caught off guard by her unexpected arrival, humorously asked, “What are you doing here?” Disappointed by his lackluster response, Supriya later jokingly labelled him “unromantic.”
Supriya shared the amusing moment on Instagram, posting a video of her surprise visit along with a playful caption teasing her husband. In the clip, she can be seen approaching the set and walking into Prithviraj’s tent, where he reacts with a mix of shock and confusion. As she hugs him, he asks, “Why you came?” She replies, “Cos it’s the last day (of the shoot).” Still bewildered, he follows up with, “You came from Bombay?” before getting up and hugging her properly.
Unimpressed by his distracted reaction to her romantic gesture, Supriya humorously shared the incident online. In her caption, she quipped: “When you take a flight across the country, drive 3 hours post that and arrive on the sets to surprise director Saar @therealprithvi on his last day of shoot for Empuraan, only to be met by “why you came? “🙄🤦♀️ #distractedhusbandmax #shootover #romanticwife #unromantichusband.”
Announcing the completion of Empuraan’s shoot, Prithviraj shared a poster of the movie, noting, “At 5:35 am today, by the banks of the Malampuzha reservoir, we canned the final shot of #L2E #EMPURAAN See you in theatres in 117 days! 🙂” Jointly produced by Lyca Productions and Aashirvad Cinemas, the movie will see Mohanlal, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran and Prithviraj reprising their respective characters from the first movie. Empuraan will hit the screens on March 27, 2025, a day before Lucifer’s sixth anniversary.
