Coldplay ticket row: BookMyShow claims ‘no association with unauthorised reselling platforms’, says they are ‘proactively working’ with cops in investigation

The reselling of Coldplay concert tickets on unathorised platforms at a higher price has caused a furore among fans.

The concert of Coldplay was a great news for the fans of the band in India, but soon after the tickets went live on BookMyShow, fans found themselves waiting endlessly for the tickets and a large number of them could not get them. Several resellers were soon seen selling tickets at a larger price which created a furore. Mumbai police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) responded to complaints by fans who alleged that black marketing was at play here. Now, BookMyShow has issued a statement about the same and claimed “no association with any such unauthorised ticket selling/reselling platforms”.

A BookMyShow spokesperson, said in a statement that 13 million (1.3 crore) fans were logged in to buy tickets on September 22. The online ticketing platform shared that they capped the sales at 4 tickets per user and ensured that “transparent communication through all our official channels”. They shared that they also added a third show because of the “unprecedented demand”.

Regarding the resale of tickets on unauthorised platforms, BookMyShow said, “It came to our notice however that unauthorised platforms listed (and are continuing to list) tickets for Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India, both before and after the official sale. BookMyShow has no association with any such unauthorised ticket selling/reselling platforms including but not limited to Viagogo and Gigsberg or third party individuals for the purpose of reselling Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025 in India.”

The online ticketing platform also shared that they have filed a police complaint and are assisting the police in investigating the matter. “Scalping and black marketing of tickets is strictly condemned and punishable by law in India and BookMyShow vehemently opposes this practice. We have not only filed a complaint with the police authorities but are also proactively working with them to provide complete support in the investigation of this matter in any manner that may be required. To our consumers, we would like to reiterate that any tickets bought from unauthorised sources will be at their own risk and may likely be invalid or fake tickets,” the statement read.

Coldplay will perform at DY Patil Sports Stadium in Navi Mumbai, on January 18, 19, and 21, 2025.
