Selena Gomez forgets fiancé Benny Blanco’s songs on Hot Ones, he forgets how to function

They say couples who survive Da’Bomb together, stay together, and Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco definitely put that to the test on Hot Ones.

Selena Gomez and her fiancé Benny Blanco thought they were ready for Hot Ones—until the hot sauce hit back. The couple made their first official appearance on the YouTube chat show and held it together, for a while at least. They were in sync, just like they were while working on their upcoming collaborative album I Said I Love You First, out March 28. The couple spoke about how Selena always seems to “gravitate toward Benny” in the most chaotic moments (especially when he’s doing something dangerous with a knife), to how Benny officially became a Swiftie.

But then came Da’Bomb. Somewhere between the wings, Benny forgot how to read, and Selena couldn’t even remember which of his songs she likes.

During a round of rapid-fire questions, things got so spicy Selena had to start taking laps. Benny tried asking her which of his songs she thought was the most underrated, but she was too busy pacing around the table, laughing through the pain. “I don’t even know what song you’d pick!” she said. When host Sean Evans told Benny to try another one, he totally blanked. “It’s crazy, you lose motor skills,” he admitted.

Somehow, they made it through. Selena couldn’t have been happier to have Benny by her side. The last time she did Hot Ones as a surprise on The Tonight Show back in 2019, she swore the flashbacks would haunt her forever. But this time, she had her fiancé, the official spicy wing support system, right by her side.

During the episode, Selena joked that she always picks the worst times to distract Benny, like when he’s chopping things with a very sharp knife. “I always try to hug you in the most terrible moment,” she laughed. Benny agreed, saying it’s pretty much every time he’s doing something dangerous. “Whenever it’s the most dangerous thing in the kitchen. I’ll be frying an entire lobster and she comes up and tickles me,” he said.

The “Calm Down” singer also shared how she ended up following Martin Short and Steve Martin’s lunch habits while filming their show, Only Murders in the Building. “They eat the same thing every day,” she said. “Now I do too.” These days, her go-to is a chicken salad sandwich. Simple, but it makes her happy.

Looking back on her first number one, “Lose You to Love Me,” Selena admitted she had no idea it would hit people the way it did. “I knew it was personal and honest,” she said. “But I didn’t expect it to become what it became. It ended up being so much bigger than me—like it turned into a song for anyone who’s ever felt what I was feeling.”

Benny also opened up about how dating Selena pretty much turned him into a full-on Swiftie. Selena and Taylor have been close for years, and it didn’t take long for Benny to get pulled into the world of Swift. “Before we started dating, I knew Taylor’s music,” he said. “But I wasn’t a real Swiftie until I was with Selena. Now I’m the one in the car like, ‘Play that one! How does it go again?’ I’m out here singing Taylor songs from 10 years ago—and honestly, I feel free.”
