Action-packed

Marvel Entertainment’s new launch, an intriguing action role-playing game based on their upcoming film, Guardians of the Galaxy, should definitely make its way to your gadget

Guardians Of The Galaxy Guardians Of The Galaxy

A couple of weeks before the film hits the cinema halls in the US, Marvel Entertainment has launched an interesting (and addictive) game based on a superhero film. In the game titled Guardians of the Galaxy: The Universal Weapon, the story mode begins with a prison breakout which ultimately leads to a mission that shows how the fate of the universe is at stake. The player needs to help the guardians in recovering five pieces of the universal weapon, before it gets into the hands of the evil forces — Ronan, Nebula and Korath. This line-drawing action – role playing game bears an uncanny resemblance to Battleheart, a title that is extremely popular among gaming enthusiasts. But despite the similarity, Guardians… does manage to impress with its decent game play and visually astounding graphics.
In the beginning, you start off as Star-Lord, leader of the guardians. As the game progresses, you can go ahead and recruit his crew members, including Rocket (an alien) Groot (the tree-like being) Gamora (an enigmatic assassin) and Drax the Destroyer (a green masked revenge seeker). The single character or a team can then take to the field in several story-based missions. Each character has a special set of abilities. Some of these expertises, when in contact with the expertise of another character, can create powerful combinations to wipe out the opponents. The story mode includes six intergalactic worlds and more than 60 levels for players to explore. In addition to the five main characters from the film, there are 20 additional characters, which can be unlocked during the course of the game. These characters can be picked in both single-player story mode and in the arena mode.
Once the gamer finishes a battle, rewards await. You end up earning experience points and tons of in-game currency, which is important, since there is no real-money shop included in this game. This is a refreshing change from the other in-app purchase obsessed games. The in-game currency is divided into two — coins and shards. The former can be utilised to purchase upgrades and craft items or weapons, while the latter is used to unlock new characters.
The arena mode is equally fun. One can reach here to battle it out against a huge wave of powerful opponents. The player can fight it out in the arena mode and recruit new heroes and villains for the battle, only once they have earned all the three grades in each of the story mode missions.
On the technical front, Guardians… creates magic with its good graphics, arty characterisation and smooth gameplay. The background music is peppy and matches the flow of the game. The game can be run without any internet connection, which is a win for those who want to get rid of boredom and have got no Wi-Fi or 3G services (unless you want to connect to the game center, which requires internet). Guardians… is available in more than 10 languages and the developers have promised to deliver fresh updates on a monthly basis, which is great. Despite the price tag being on the steeper side, this game delivers exactly what it promises — tons of entertainment and fun. Don’t miss this one!
