Launch vehicle
My character’s name is Zara Peter Fernandes, and I portray a very independent and confident woman in the film. It is the journey of a struggling actress who becomes one of the top heroines in the industry. There are many grey shades to my character, and I portray a fiercely smart woman who knows how to get things done.
Casting Coup
I was offered the role by a casting director who had approached me with a different script. He later felt that I would suit the role in The Xposé. I liked the script and met the producer Himesh Reshammiya and director Ananth Mahadevan. They briefed me about my role and after a look and screen test, I was on board.
Stepping stone
I modelled for three years and have also featured in many campaigns like the Kingfisher calender. Also, I was the first Indian face to model for the international brand Mac cosmetics.
First shot
My first day of shoot was at Ujwal Nirmal Sheetal in Mumbai, where we had recreated the entire scene from Satyam Shivam Sundaram depicting Zeenat Aman. It was the classic wet sari look which she had worn in ’70s. I was very nervous as there were more than two hundred people on the set. Before beginning work, my director and I had discussed the scene. Earlier, I thought of wearing a body suit, but after discussing with my director, I dropped the idea. It was a one take shot, captured very aesthetically, for which I received several compliments too.
Stumbling block
I did not face any major glitch while shooting as our team was very well organised. Every scene was very challenging as my character has several grey shades. I remember a scene that took 14-15 retakes before it was given the nod. I had to say, “Mein pachaas hazar mein apna jism nahi bechungi”, but tone in which I spoke changed, the entire meaning had changed. I had a tough timesaying such intense dialogues.
Takeaway
My role was very challenging as involvedintense scenes and stunts, besides doing intense scenes. The entire experience has helped me polish my acting skills. It was a memorable experience as on the first day itself I met Salman Khan and on the last day I met Shah Rukh Khan! The biggest takeaway is that the film has done well, and my role was appreciated.
Role model
I am impressed by my sister Ujjwala Raut who is an international model. From Bollywood my role model is Priyanka Chopra, whom I consider a very versatile actress.
Future plans
I have recently signed a romantic film, but I cannot disclose the details. I have a few endorsements lined up too. Besides, I shall continue to model as it is an integral part of my life.
