Trust music composer Sneha Khanwalkar to come up with most quirky and out-of-the-box tunes.The album opens with the naughty and full of zest Engine ki seeti. This foot tapping number has a decent melange of folk beats and modern sounds, with a dash of engine noises dominating the background. We love the way singer Sunidhi Chauhan has done justice to this track, adding the right amount of enthusiasm and power. Although the original folk number (engine ki seeti mein maaro mann dole) was full of Rajasthani folk beats, this one has been jazzed up to suit the modern day girl. The composition and hookline are catchy.
Fans of the signature style created by Yo Yo Honey Singh, Abhi toh party will impress you. Rapper – music producer Badshah’s composition is similar to the kind of party anthems created by his erstwhile partner Singh. Infact, even certain portions of the lyrics sound similar to Party all night and Chaar bottle vodka. Despite the fact that it does not offer anything new, we like the vibe of this club number.
Jasleen Royal creates a beautiful atmosphere in the soulful number, Preet. With strumming of the guitar and melodies of the violin dominating the background, this soft and slow track has its moments. The song is easy on the ears and very soothing, as it successfully transports you to a different, romantic world. In the rapping meets EDM inspired track Maa ka phone, Khanwalkar has mixed several electronic beats with the sounds of the mobile keypad and ringtone, to create an unusual mix which explains how and why the protagonist’s mother keeps calling her all day. But there is nothing extraordinary about the composition and the repetitive lyrics are not novel.
Overall, the Khoobsurat album makes for an average musical fare, which has its share of highs and lows.
