On the other side
With Unity not living upto the hype, Assassins Creed: Rogue attempts to save the franchise and give an insight into the other side of the team, by being a Templar

By Karan Shah
The Assassins Creed flagship has been flying high for quite a while now with the game enthusiast firmly hooked on to the drama. From the first edition itself, gamers have enjoyed the amazing and unique gameplay developed by the Assassins’ franchise. This season, we saw two editions being released by the Assasinss Creed Dynasty, the first was Assassins Creed Unity and after that Assassins Creed: Rogue. While, there was a huge hype surrounding Unity, Rogue is a new addition to the franchise that gives us an insight into the darker side of the game.
An unusual twist
The story takes an unusual twist this time— we aren’t on the Assassins side, who wage the battles against the Templars. In fact, we play a different character, Shae Cormac, who is an ex-assassin and has lost faith in the Assassins, so he decides to move to the opposite side, the Templars. Cormac’s character is really amazing.
The game is made interesting by giving the player an opportunity to see and experience the fight from the Templars side this time around. Also, we all know that the Assassins Creed games are great mediums to learn or teach history as their storylines have showcased us the Renaissance Era, Colonial America and the French Revolution as well. But this time, Rogue takes us into the frozen sea of the Arctic and is set during the time of the Seven Years War of the 1950’s. Rogue has benefitted a lot by connecting the events of their other games with this one. The events of Black Flag and Assassins Creed Unity are connected with Rogue.
Gameplay
Rogue is a good game as the developers have uniquely embodied the elements of their other successful games into this one. In Rogue, changes have been incorporated in the side missions with the naval battles becoming the highlight of the game. But at times, guiding the slow and wooden boat, The Morrigoan through the icy Arctic seas is boring, however, after a while you get through it with ease once we understand how it works. But, we have to be more careful this time around, as we are not pirates, but belong to the other side and have to protect our ship against pirates and other enemy vessels. If this does not catch your fancy, there is a large part of the game set on land as we try to capture territories from the Assassins and also hunt them down. The action has been revamped and is much better as we can attack, roll and counter-attack with ease.
Rogue becomes better to play after the developers added a bit of sci-fi into the game as well, as the player has to locate lost artifacts and explore the Templars.
What catches the attention of the player are the amazing graphics—the sea and animated characters— are as engrossing as the game. The music and sound is amazing, clear and crisp.
Verdict
While Assassins Creed Unity did not live upto the franchise’s reputation, Assassins Creed: Rogue has wowed us all. It isn’t the most amazing game played till date, but definitely one worth playing. An entertaining and action-packed game all in all.
